The 5 Best Food Truck Dishes in OKC

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Oklahoma chapter.

Food Trucks have been trending for about seven years now, and they have developed a rather large foodie following. The modern trucks have revolutionized the industry and ended the negative “Roach Coach” or “Freezer to Fryer” stereotypes. The modern food truck industry has undergone quite a few changes since my induction into the industry in 2011, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the original twist food truck chefs put on their food and the dynamite taste that comes with it. There are sure to be more changes to come, but for now, this is my list of the tastiest food truck dishes in OKC:

5.  Blue J’s Rollin Grill: Mushroom Burger

Coming in at No. 5 is Blue J’s Rollin’ Grill with its Mushroom Burger. The dish is as lively as the truck, and the burger simmers with the freshness of mushrooms and greens. The savory sauce is my favorite part.

4. Let’s Do Greek: Gyros Over Rice

The crowd favorite Gyros Over Rice bowl makes including Let’s Do Greek a no-brainer. This deconstructed version of the traditional gyro is made with sliced gyro meat, fresh onions, grilled tomatoes, pita bread, rice and, of course, the traditional tzatziki sauce.

3. Pitchfork Kitchen and Bakery: Western Chick

Pitchfork stole the show with its Western Chick sandwich and Homemade Chips. The Western Chick is made with Blue and Gold chicken tenders and is topped with crispy bacon, house made pepper jelly, whipped cream cheese and fresh lettuce. It’s held together by buttered Texas toast. The sweet, homemade Hummingbird Bread from Pitchfork’s bakery is an honorable mention, as well.

2. Maples Barbecue: Pulled Pork Sandwich

Standing in a long line in the rain was worth the wait for the tender and juicy Pulled Pork Sandwich from Maples Barbecue. The pork itself was delicious and tasted like it had been smoked for hours. However, the meat was merely the supporting role to the sweet and tangy barbecue sauce that truly stole the show.

1. Buttermilk Southern Sliders

Buttermilk Southern Sliders is a true southerner’s food truck dream. No matter what slider you order – whether it’s the Honey Chicken or the Chicken Gravy – the buttery biscuits baked to perfection complement the crispy, fried chicken perfectly. This truck turned an inspiring idea into a culinary masterpiece and earned its spot at No. 1.

Oklahoma '19

I grew up in a food-obsessed, Italian family, and in 2011 we turned our obsession into a business. In November of 2011, we opened our first food truck, Little Italy. As our business grew so did my love for the food industry. I enjoy finding the unique qualities that make each meal unique.
