I Ate the Best Burger in the World to See If It’s Worth the Hype

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Notre Dame chapter.

Most burger places claims to be home of the best burger in the world. But, back in 2015, CNN named Fergbuger “the best burger joint on the planet.” Unfortunately, the only location of the iconic Fergburger is halfway across the word in Queenstown, New Zealand. But luckily Fergburger is open 21 hours of the day (21, seriously?) and makes for the perfect late night drunk food.  So, when my friends and I found ourselves in Queenstown, Fergburger was at the top of our to-do list.

The Order:

Check out Fergburger’s extensive menu. It serves meats such as lamb, deer, cod, and chicken. I went with the classic beef patty. I ordered the Southern Swine (prime New Zealand beef, American streaky bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion, avocado, aioli, and tomato relish). With a side of French fries and a gelato milkshake.

The Taste-Test

My mouth began watering the moment the food was in front of me. I had been waiting for this moment for a long time. I took my first bite, and was immediately pleased. This had to be the juiciest, most savory burger I have ever tasted (and I’ve had my fair share of burgers). To my surprise, I finished the whole thing.

The Verdict

While Fergburger is certainly pricer than making your own burger, it is a must try if you find yourself halfway across the world. You definitely get your money’s worth, and you will be left waddling away from the restaurant doors paralyzed by a food coma. I agree that Fergburger is home to the best burger in the world. And now, I can die happy.
