A Ranking of Bennison’s Macaron Flavors

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Northwestern chapter.

Made of finely ground almonds, powdered sugar and egg whites, macarons are a traditional French cookie that contain no coconut, unlike the American macaroon. Bennison’s macarons are top-rated in the Chicago area, and feature both seasonal and classic flavors. Here are our rankings of the ones they had in store:

7. Strawberry

Slightly too sweet, but a tasty treat nonetheless.

6. Vanilla

Nothing was particularly wrong with this flavor — nor mind-blowing. A good choice if you’re into vanilla ice cream and vanilla cake.

5. Red Velvet

Could use more flavor, however the cream cheese icing in the middle was a tangy bonus.

4. Chocolate

The ganache in the middle made this macaron especially chocolate-y.

3. Lemon

Like a chewy, creamy lemon bar. Yum.

2. Raspberry

Can’t go wrong with raspberry, vanilla and creamy raspberry ganache in the middle.

 1. Salted Caramel

Decidedly the best flavor because of the sweet and salty contrast and generous amount of gooey salted caramel in the middle.
