I Tried Brunch at Terra & Vine and Here’s What I Thought

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Northwestern chapter.

If you live near downtown Evanston, you’ve probably passed by Terra & Vine at one point. However, not a lot of people know that Terra & Vine offers weekend brunch, and really, it’s worth trying. Especially if you’re an avocado toast fan.

Food & Drinks

The restaurant offers a drink menu, and the two best-selling options are the Aperol Spritz (aperol, sparkling wine, soda water) and the Limoncello Lemon Drop (hank’s vodka, limoncello, lemon juice, lemon zest sugar rim).

The brunch menu has a mix of sweet and savory items. The servers picked the T&V breakfast (classic egg, meat and bread combo), Lox & Bagel sandwich (pastrami salmon, cream cheese, tomato and cucumber on an everything bagel), avocado toast and French toast as the top choices.

So we decided to try the avocado toast and French toast.

Savory: Avocado Toast

Terra & Vine’s avocado toast sticks to the classic combination of smashed avocado, herbed mascarpone, poached eggs and rustic bread. Even though the toast is relatively small, it will fill you up quickly, especially with the side of potato hash.

Price: $12.95

Sweet: French Toast

The three-layer French toast is made with vanilla & bourbon mascarpone, mixed berry compote and whipped cream. The portion is big enough for two people to share, especially since every bite is so sweet. You’ll want to order a savory option with this.

In the end, we were able to finish three-fourths of the French toast and most of the avocado toast. The side of potato hash was definitely a necessity to balance out the ultra-sweet French toast.

Price: $10.95

Located at 1701 Maple Avenue in Evanston, Terra & Vine offers valet parking at the door at $7. From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, this eatery offers both indoor and outdoor seating options too.

With the summer weather coming (you never know with Illinois), Terra & Vine proves the perfect spot to do weekend brunch with your friends or family.
