Everything You Need for a Successful Dilly Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Northwestern chapter.

Dillo Day: The one day of the year when Northwestern students can forget about the never-ending pressure of the quarter system, the impending doom of finals week, the stresses over summer internships (or lack thereof — sorry, sore subject), and the sad reality that we may actually have to be adults in the very near future.

But if there’s one thing you don’t want to forget about on Dillo, it’s food. Let’s face it — for most of us, the only thing we’re worried about consuming is alcohol (that’s a food group, right?). But spending a full day drinking in the sun can be dangerous without some snacks and other edible must-haves in the mix. Here are the five fanny pack food fillers you need to have:

1. Mints or gum

2. Advil or Tylenol

Headaches suck in general, but the sun and loud music definitely won’t help.

3. Crackers

They’ll absorb that alcohol right up.

4. Granola bars

They’re filling but not too heavy, so they make a good, quick hunger fix.

5. Something with protein

This can take the form of a protein bar, jerky, nuts, etc. Protein will curb your appetite for hours and help the alcohol absorb more slowly, meaning you won’t get hit by that hangover at 2 pm.

Happy Dillo-Daying!
