4 New Ways to Incorporate Granola Into Dessert

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Northwestern chapter.

Granola is more than just a topping for yogurt and doesn’t have to be solely eaten for breakfast. With its sweetness and crunch, it can easily be be used as the star ingredient in many of the classic desserts we know and love. It’ll just give you another reason to eat more granola, and who doesn’t want that? Here are four ways you can incorporate more granola into your life outside of breakfast.

1. Into a crisp

Adding granola when making a crisp, whether it be a blueberry or apple, can add more crunch and texture to this warm and fruity dessert. Imagine that next to a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you got yourself a creamier dessert.

2. Into a cake

This might not exactly fit the description of a cake, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good. Switching out some of the flour with some granola can add some sweetness and can transform a regular ol’ cake into something that can possibly be eaten for breakfast.

3. Into a cheesecake

One of the prized characteristics of a good cheesecake is the texture. The smooth creaminess is irresistible and adds a level of decadence that is unparalleled to other desserts. The second is the graham cracker crust that everyone loves. So, how can it be made any better? Granola can be used to top the cheesecake as well as the crust to take this already glorious dessert to another level.

4. Into a pie

Granola isn’t graham crackers, but they’re both perfect for making a pie crust. They both give the sweetness and the crunchiness the crust needs to contrast with the smooth and soft filling. It’s also a great source for a substitute if you’re missing graham crackers in your pantry.
