4 Ice Cream Spots To Try In Boston This Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Northeastern chapter.

Sure, we just had a giant blizzard and temperatures are regularly below freezing right now. But in my opinion, it’s never too cold for ice cream. On that note, here are 4 ice cream spots to try in Boston this winter.

1) TAIYAKI

Taiyaki only has a few locations throughout the US, and luckily one of them is right in Boston’s Seaport.

The fish-shaped ice cream cones are (literally) the coolest desserts ever, and can be filled with either custard or red bean filling. I’m personally a fan of the custard filling and chocolate ice cream, but I definitely plan on making another trip this winter to try some different flavors! Overall, the ice cream’s good, but the cone has to be my favorite part.

2) J.P. LICKS

I recommend the Peanut Butter Cookies ‘n’ Cream or the Brownie Brownie Batter. Or both, because why not?

There’s a lot of locations throughout Boston, but I usually go to the one near Newbury since it’s walkable from campus (and right next to Boston Burger, which is another favorite).

3) AMORINO

If you’re more of a gelato person, Amorino’s gelato is absolute perfection. They’re also known for their (delicious) macarons as well.

I usually get chocolate, but I recently tried their Dulce de Leche flavor and it’s become my new favorite! If you’re ever on Newbury this winter and feel like escaping the freezing temperatures in a store, this is definitely a great place to go.

4) PLAYA BOWLS

Obviously, it’s not ice cream. But it’s frozen, so it deserves an honorary mention. After all, if it’s not too cold for ice cream, it’s not too cold for an acai bowl, right?

Located right on Huntington, Playa Bowls is the perfect place for breakfast or lunch before or after class, or even a post-workout meal if you’re coming from Marino. My go-to is the Electric Mermaid Pitaya bowl, but there are a ton of fun options and seasonal bowls!
