If you are MiddKid, odds are you have heard of Vergennes Laundry. And if you’ve heard of it, you’ve probably been there. And if you’ve been there, you most likely LOVED it. But sadly, this article isn’t about the sparkling cinnabuns or homemade hot chocolate of the Laundry. I’m here to tell you that another perfect food heaven exists in Vergennes. And it’s right next door.
Let me introduce you to 3 Squares Cafe. It has a warm Vermont atmosphere and a menu that belongs in a hip new café in Seattle.
I went to 3 Squares on a Sunday morning for brunch (my favorite meal) and was blown away by the taste, variety of food options, and general ambience of the restaurant that is cozy and much more spacious than Laundry.
With a chalk menu boasting items like “Maple and Walnut Buttermilk Pancakes” and “Smoked Salmon Bagels,” how does one even choose? In addition to their daily breakfast menu, they offer specials such as Eggs Benedict with Prosciutto Di Parma and Roasted Tomato served with Home Fries, and Strawberry Granola Buttermilk Pancakes. Come on people. Are you in the car driving over there yet?
I ended up ordering the Egg Panino: an egg, sausage and cheese sandwich served in between two large warm slices of Focaccia bread. I was impressed not only by the rich, homey, flavor of melted cheese and sausage, but also by the generous portion. Everything my friends and I had was delicious, and we agreed brunch at 3 Squares was the perfect way to spend a few hours of our Sunday morning before returning to the homework grind.
I would recommend this café to any MiddKid, as it’s great way to mix up your Sunday morning routine, and also makes the perfect spot for a casual dinner date (3 Squares serves lunch and dinner, too). Yes, Vergennes Laundry has cardamom buns to die for and an unbeatable Instagram aesthetic, but you would be truly missing out if you didn’t give 3 Squares Cafe a try.
