If you’re as big of a donut fanatic as I am, then you’ve definitely heard of The Salty Donut. Being only a few blocks away from the famous Wynwood Walls, this shop is the perfect stop for just about any resident or tourist in town. Start your day with some Intelligentsia Coffee and a donut, then walk it off while getting some Instagram worthy pics in front of the artsy Wynwood walls. The only thing wrong with this scenario is that it’s never just one donut… it’s a box or two.
Here are the top 5 reasons why you will never leave The Salty Donut with just one single donut.
1. The Line
I once waited in a line outside of The Salty Donut for 45 minutes just to get my hands on a Sticky Bun Donut, which is only available once a year. You may be thinking, “Well then maybe you should have gone earlier!” but to both my surprise and yours, this line was formed within 10 minutes of opening at approximately 8:10 a.m. The girl in front of me was playing Sudoku on her phone, that’s when you know.
My intention was to get the sticky bun and be on my way, but nope. With a line like this I’m going to make it worth it, and boy did I! Six sticky bun donuts for me please! The hype is real.
2. The Crowd
I’m definitely not saying that if a huge crowd of people were to jump off a cliff then I would follow, but if this same crowd of people left The Salty Donut with a big box of donuts in their hands, I might just have to splurge myself. And by crowd of people, I mean everyone. Not a single person has left this place with just a single donut, there’s no way, they’re that good.
3. The Decadent Display
Ok, so you finally get through the line and you’ve watched everyone else ahead of you walk out with their boxes. Now what? Well, pick your donuts of course. The display of decadence right next to the cash register makes it effortless for you to do that. It becomes way too easy in that moment to grow a second stomach and make room for extra donuts while emptying your wallet at the same time. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, oh and while we’re at it a coffee would be great too. Preferably the one that’s made with homemade Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal milk. Thanks.
4. The Never Ending Flavors
I have linked the menu here so you can take a look for yourself. Guava & Cheese, Traditional Glazed Buttermilk, Brown Butter & Salt, Nutella, Maple Bacon, and White Chocolate Tres Leches are available year round. These donuts are so good and will surprise you, I promise. For the longest time I avoided the White Chocolate Tres Leches, being that I am not the biggest fan of this dessert. Once I tried it I was blown away, I mean I don’t even like Tres Leches and this donut made me want to regurgitate it and eat it again a second time (you’re welcome for the visual).
The Salty Donut also offers weekly donuts and comes out with new flavors faster than you can get your next paycheck. I swear this is like a game of collecting Beanie Babies, but instead the challenge is to try every single new flavor released before it’s removed from the menu. They like to keep us on our toes I guess.
5. The Insta Pic Will Be Lit
Pics or it didn’t happen, am I right? I mean how cool is this picture? This is the only donut shop I have ever been to that I could take a picture this awesome. You can see the tedious detail that goes into each and every donut, all while making your Instagram followers extremely jealous of your life. It will definitely be your most liked post yet.
Long story short, if you’re in Wynwood Arts & Design District, The Salty Donut is an absolute must. In the perfect location, with the most perfect menu, it would be hard to miss out on an opportunity like that. The experience is something you will crave just as much as their donuts, and your Instagram post will be the coolest thing to happen since Kylie Jenner gave birth. So head on over to The Salty Donut Tuesday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. or sold out and Saturday-Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. or sold out. I promise, you will most definitely not regret it.
