South Beach is known for its trendy restaurants, but there’s a new one on the block (Alton to be exact) that might become your next go-to spot. Tanuki is an Asian fusion restaurant that is sure to cater to anyone’s cravings. From the food to the service and ambience, there is nothing Tanuki is lacking in from its first month of opening. Here are some of the not-to-miss dishes that are sure to keep customers coming back for more.
Hanamatsuri
There’s no better way to start a meal than with a cocktail and Tanuki has a variety of options. With their unique flavors and appearances, these cocktails will surely get your night started. My personal favorite was the hanamatsuri, a delicious mixture of refreshing flavors like lychee and coconut cream.
Roasted corn elote
Fusion is a big part of Tanuki’s cuisine and they do not skimp out on flavor. If you’re feeling Mexican, go for the roasted corn elote and get ready to be lost in the deliciousness of queso fresco and aioli. If you want traditional Japanese, try out the shishito peppers or tuna on crispy rice and watch yourself devour them within minutes.
Sushi
For all the sushi lovers out there, there are dozens of fish items to choose from in the form of tacos, sashimi, maki, and temaki. Can’t decide which type you want? Order them all (we won’t judge). For you meat eaters, go for the grilled bone in rib-eye or cashew chicken.
Miso capp
Like my parents taught me from a young age, no meal is complete without dessert, and Tanuki does not disappoint on the sweets. The miso capp is a chocolate brûlée covering mounds of candied pecans, and I may or may not have eaten the whole thing while my boyfriend was in the bathroom (sorry).
