Four Wines to Pair with Girl Scout Cookies

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at KU chapter.

Girl Scout Cookies come around once a year, and whether you call them Samoas or Carmel Delights, Tagalongs or Peanut Butter Patties, everyone has a favorite. So what could make these heavenly treats even more amazing? Wine. Forget milk and cookies. As an adult, it’s time to try out a classier pairing for you favorite treats.

There are countless ways to pair your favorite Girl Scout Cookies with wine with thousands of wine options and 12 cookie options, but after some research, I came up with four favorites. These four wine and Girl Scout Cookie pairings are sure to spice up your next wine night.

Peanut Butter Patties and Cabernet Sauvignon

First on the list of wine and Girl Scout Cookie pairings is Peanut Butter Patties (aka Tagalongs) and a nice Cabernet Sauvignon. These two go well together because of their savory flavors. Tagalongs are the perfect peanut butter and chocolate fix with just enough crunch from the shortbread cookie inside, and this full-bodied wine and its eucalyptus and vanilla flavors is sure to leave your sweet tooth satisfied.

Lemonades and Chardonnay

This wine and Girl Scout Cookie pairing is a match made in heaven. Chardonnay goes with just about anything, but especially lemon and citrus flavors because of the flavor of the wine. The sweet, creamy lemon on the bottom of the Lemonades blends perfectly with the vanilla hints in the Chardonnay. The combination is the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. You could also try Chardonnay with a Carmel Delight because the coconut would also complement the vanilla flavors.

Carmel Delights and Pinot Gris

Pinot Gris is a very acidic and dry wine. This wine pairs well with the Carmel Delights (aka Samoas) because it contrasts the sweet coconut and chocolate flavors of the cookie. Pinot Gris wines typically have lemon, lime or apple flavors to them. The Rainstorm Pinot Gris could also be great with the Lemonades because of the acidity and citrus flavors.

Thin Mints and Moscato d’Asti

Finally, Moscato d’Asti is by far the sweetest wine on this list. It’s a sparkling wine that is a dessert all on its own. The Thin Mint is arguably the most refreshing cookie if there ever was one, so it goes well with the sweetness of this wine. This wine and Girl Scout Cookie pairing works so well because the wine’s own sweetness seems to cancel out the chocolate flavor and make the mint flavor pop.

After work or just for fun, relax with a glass of wine and your favorite cookies. Whether a Thin Mint lover or a Carmel Delight connoisseur, there is a wine to match your favorite Girl Scout Cookie. The great thing about the wines listed is their versatility. The white wines pair well with just about any of the cookies because of the citrus and sweetness of each one. But no matter which you choose, wine is the perfect way to make Girl Scout Cookies feel more “adult.”

Audrey Hepburn, early 2000s hip-hip, travel, and food (obviously) are the things that make me happiest in life, besides my 20 pound cat named Oliver. I'm a Journalism and English major at the University of Kansas and love exploring Lawrence. Lastly, in the wise words of Nelly, "I'm from the Lou and I'm proud!"
