If you are tired of the same old frozen foods with an endless amount of calories and unpronounceable ingredients, don’t lose hope just yet. With offerings like Peri Peri Portobellos, Chimichurri Chicken, Cilantro Lime Chicken, Gouchajang Cauliflower, Braised Brisket and Bourbon Braised Pork, Wildscape’s menu sounds like it’s being served up at a 5 star restaurant. In reality, it’s a 5 star frozen food company with a passion for serving up the best products.
Wildscape has a passion for fresh ingredients and bold flavors inspired by the landscapes around us. They are redefining what microwave meals can be with a healthier, tastier, good for you meal that can be enjoyed in minutes. This September, they are launching six products that will wow your senses and blow your mind. I was lucky enough to try three of their new meals, and can honestly say I am waiting with baited breath for their official release.
I sampled the Gochujang Cauliflower, Chimichurri Chicken and Bourbon Braised Pork frozen meals from their first line of products. They also shared with me a Cilantro Herb Kit from Modern Sprout, a #gatherwhatsgood fork, and a reusable Wildscape bag. As a bonus, all of their meals are served up in microwaveable, dishwasher safe, reusable packaging, so you’re not only getting a meal, you’re getting a new container for your next set of left overs. Below are my thoughts on each item I sampled.
Wildscape Gochujang Cauliflower with Brussel Sprouts, Chickpeas and Quinoa, Riced Cauliflower, Cashews, and Pickled Onions
This vegetarian-friendly and spicy microwave meal was delicious! After a short stint in the microwave (3 minutes and 30 seconds), I mixed the veggies and continued cooking for 2 minutes and 15 seconds, leaving it to rest for a minute more after the timer went off. The container was very hot (so be careful when you take it out of the microwave), but luckily, the food cooled off quickly because the smell was intoxicating. It reminded me of my favorite Korean restaurant and I couldn’t help but lick the fork clean as I was waiting.
With tender roasted vegetables and crunchy quinoa, the texture was perfect. I have never been a big fan of Brussels sprouts before, but after trying them in this dish, I would happily eat them again. They were tender and spicy, which was the perfect combo, and the entire bowl was only 320 calories. I felt completely full after finishing the bowl, and with 12 grams of protein and 13 grams of fiber, who wouldn’t? This was easily my favorite of the three.
Before Microwaving (notice the big chucks of carrot and Brussels sprouts)
After Microwave (Quinoa!)
Wildscape Chimichurri Chicken with Roasted Peppers, Red Potatoes, and Farro, Aji Amarillo Puree, and Almonds
In all honesty, I had never heard of half the ingredients and flavors in this meal, but after a quick Google search I discovered that Chimichurri is a sauce of Argentinian origin and Aji Amarillo Puree is a Peruvian staple, made with chilies. I was really excited to try something new and loved how Wildscape presented these lesser known (at least to me) flavors and ingredients with familiar ones like chicken and almonds.
This Wildscape cooks for just under 5 minutes with a stir in the middle and a 1 minute rest at the end (I accidentally forgot to let it sit though and it still tasted amazing).
The flavors were bright with a slight kick from the Ajai Amarillo, and a tartness that was addictive. The farro had a soft, rice like texture and was the star of the dish, with the tender chicken a close second. For a microwave meal, I was really surprised by how tender and flavorful everything was. It was a restaurant-worthy meal that was equally satisfying and delicious. With no trans fats, 6 grams of fiber, and veggies galore, this is a meal you can feel good about.
Before (again huge chucks of veggies!)
After (Farro anyone?)
Wildscape Bourbon Braised Pork with Roasted Squash, Butter Beans, Sorghum, and Pickled Peppers
Tender veggies and pork make for a great combo in this easy microwave meal. Again, I really love the way Wildscapes gets me to try new ingredients and flavors.
In this dish, the butter beans were new to me and something I would happily try again. The zucchini and peppers, which I would usually turn my nose up at, were flavorful and delicious. The pork had great flavor as well, and was tender enough to break up with my fork.
This meal cooks for the same amount of time as the Chimichurri Chicken, with a stir in the middle and a rest at the end. With great veggies, 410 calories, 23 grams of protein and 10 grams of fiber, you know you are getting something wholesome and healthy when you pick this up in the freezer aisle.
Before (bright colors = bright flavors)
After (butter beans all around)
