9 Ways the Sharp Shopper Grocery Outlet Can Help You Ball Out on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at JMU chapter.

The first time I ever stepped foot into Sharp Shopper, I was in absolute awe. I had heard of the notorious grocery outlet from many of my friends but was always slightly sketched out by the mere idea of a “grocery outlet.” J.Crew Outlet? Nice. Outlet for milk? Wasn’t so sure.

Boy oh boy, was I in for a treat. This place is random, yet wonderful. From veggies, dairy products, frozen foods and Tupperware, Sharp Shopper hooks you up with anything and everything grocery-related at a fraction of the cost.

1. They have yummy junk food.

First things first, they have junk food for dayz. I’m talking cheese stuffed jalapenos, personal pizzas, cookies, candy, whatever you’re craving. For like, maybe $1 per item.

2. So many weird and unique options.

Given that it’s an outlet, they get the products that don’t sell at the regular grocery stores so it’s not rare to walk in and find a box of blue cotton-candy Duncan Hines cupcakes for sale or wacky Philadelphia cream cheese flavors.

3. Name-brands galore.

Yep, it’s not janky whatsoever. It’s all of the brands you would find at Food Lion, Martin’s, Kroeger for just way cheaper.

4. It’s right next to Kline’s.

Honestly, that’s reason enough to make the pilgramage. Grab a junior dip and peruse until your heart’s content.

5. It’s less hectic than Walmart.

Since it’s a little bit farther down South Main, Sharp Shopper tends to be much quieter than Walmart and other grocery stores. You’ll find your fair share of townies and fellow deal-finders.

6. Sharp Shopper is dirt cheap.

It’s like they’re giving it away for free.

7. They have local products, too.

The whole center aisle is packed with local flours, sugar, candy and specialty goods from vendors near Harrisonburg. Support our economy and go in. BTW–eating local is better for you.

8. The products change every week.

Every Monday, the store does a switcheroo and brings in new merch. Just in time for you to buy all your groceries for the week.

9. It’s not just food.
