College life can be hectic with balancing cooking, studying, and keeping up with schoolwork is no easy task. But meal prepping can make it all a bit more manageable and even fun! By teaming up with my college friends, we turned meal prepping into a social event. We each cooked one dish, then swapped portions to end up with a variety of meals to enjoy throughout the week. It was a great way to save time, eat well, and bond with friends over good food and music in the kitchen!
It’s easy to get started! Each person brings a set of containers equal to the number of people in the group. For example, in my group of four friends, we each brought four containers. We each chose a different dish to ensure a variety of meals for the week. Then, everyone cooked their dish in four servings. Once everything was ready, we swapped meals, so we each ended up with four different dishes to enjoy throughout the week.
For my dish, I made Korean kimchi fried rice topped with a fried egg and served with dumplings on the side. One of my friends prepared air-fryer salmon paired with roasted veggies like asparagus, carrots, and potatoes. Another friend made a creamy rose pasta. Lastly, my other friend made a savory chicken and rice dish, topped with eggs. With each of us contributing a unique dish, we ended up with a delicious variety of meals to enjoy throughout the week!
Each of us took about an hour to cook, but by the end of our meal-prepping session, we each had four delicious and different meals to enjoy throughout the week. I found that it created a sense of excitement and anticipation to try each person’s dish throughout the week. Not only was it a fun group activity, it also made our busy schedules a bit more manageable. I highly recommend giving this meal-prepping method a try!
