Nothing hits the spot quite like a piping-hot bowl of soup on a chilly, October afternoon. Luckily for those of us who live in Bloomington, there’s a local restaurant dedicated to serving up just that. Darn Good Soup is known for their tasty, healthy soups that are ready on the spot at a budget-friendly price for college students. They keep it “no frills” by focusing on doing what they do best, and that’s making darn good soup.
They don’t have any made-to-order meals, just their daily soups (plus side salads and goodies from Hartzell’s Ice Cream, another local Bloomington favorite). When you go up to the counter, you can choose from 8-10 homemade soups that they rotate daily from a total of about 70 different soups. Generally half of their soups each day are either vegetarian or vegan, and each bowl of soup comes with your choice of white or multigrain bread.
Darn Good Soup serves high-quality soup that is also healthy, so you don’t have to feel guilty about eating there all the time (which you will want to do after you try it just once). They use wholesome ingredients with little fat and lean meats, all while keeping the soups insanely tasty.
You seriously can’t go wrong with whatever soup you get. All of their soups live up to their name. Maybe go out of your comfort zone by trying a vegan soup with a vegetable in it that you definitely wouldn’t have touched as a little kid. Their Lentil Spinach soup is a personal favorite. Or beef things up with their killer Chili. Since their soups change every day, each time you go in there take advantage of trying something new because they’re sure not to disappoint.
You can follow them on Twitter for their daily list of soups, which they also tweet out with some pretty great quotes (as if following them for soup updates wasn’t enough already).
