If you live in or around Worcester, you may or may not have heard of the Canal District Farmer’s Market, an indoor market tucked away at Crompton Place, just beyond Kelley Square. Familiar with BirchTree Bread Company? Yup, it’s just downstairs! The farmer’s market opens its doors every Saturday from 9 am ’til noon, and we’ll admit, those early hours had us pretty scared too. But we gave it a shot and it was totally worth the early morning wake up.
Looking for a better way to spend your weekend? Fan of fresh produce and baked goods? Here’s our top picks from the farmers’ market.
Stillman Dairy Farm
A fourth generation family farm in Lunenberg, MA, they lured us in with an offer of a free chocolate milk sample. Who can say no to chocolate milk? The real shocker though was how fresh it tasted. Definitely beats the dining hall and will have us coming back to try more of their dairy products!
try a Little Whoopie
Maybe whoopie pies aren’t the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions a farmer’s market, but these little guys were too cute to resist! There’s plenty of flavors to choose from, but our picks were a Night and Day and Carrot Cake. Melt-in-your-mouth delicious!
Couët Farm & Framagerie
Maybe we’re biased, but we are firm believers in the fact that few foods are better than cheese. That’s why Couët Farm & Fromagerie earned our pick as a top choice at the farmer’s market; their variety of cheese and cheese spreads simply couldn’t be topped.
Revelry Coffee
A pop-up coffee shop based out of Worcester, this stand drew us in with a charmingly cute row of pour over coffee. That’s not all they’ve got to offer though, pair a toasty cup o’ joe with some of their doughnuts or cupcakes.
Seven Hills Farmstead
Ever heard of Taralli? We hadn’t either! These were probably our biggest surprise at the farmer’s market. Among other products, Seven Hills Farmstead makes these Italian wine crackers with fresh and local ingredients. In addition to the plain variety, they offer Cracked Black Pepper, Fennel, Rosemary and Hot Italian Chili.
Center Bakery
The photo says it all: the croissants from Center Bakery are everything you can ask for (BONUS: raspberry filling). Flaky and light, this farmer’s market product is a top pick for a reason. We can’t wait to make it back to sample more of their extensive collection of breads and baked goods.
So which ones do you wanna try? There’s so much more to explore, but the only way to find your faves is to stop by and explore yourself. See you Saturday.
