10 Dishes Inspired by Waitress The Musical

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Hofstra chapter.

If you’re a foodie like me, then you are a Waitress fan! This musical brings together food and song into one magical performance. These dishes, whether grand or simple, bring the essence of Waitress the Musical to your table.

1. Pies

Pie is the focal point in Waitress The Musical. The protagonist, Jenna, works at Joe’s Pie’s Diner and sings her way through her shift with the help of some clever pie monikers. Some of these quirky pies include Marshmallow Mermaid Pie, Pineapple Upside Down Pie, A Little Wild, Wild Blueberry Pie, Lulu’s Strawberry Dream Pie, Sweet Victory Pie, and Polka Dot Peach Pie.

2. Raspberry Cornbread

Whether it’s store-bought or baked fresh, cornbread is one of the most versatile and scrumptious desserts you can have. Pair it with coffee, tea or milk, this treat is not only sweet but savory. The jam in the middle adds a fruity center to this powered sugar raspberry-filled pastry.

This specific raspberry cornbread was bought at Donna Bells Bake Shop, located on W. 49th Street, near Brooks Atkinson Theatre.

3. Doughnuts

Doughnuts are an American staple. they pair great alongside your coffee and newspaper during the morning hours. Top it off with powdered sugar for an authentic dessert experience. Like other pastries, donuts can be filled with almost anything (within reason) such as chocolate, jelly, and glaze.

4. Chocolate Marshmallow Explosion

This parfait is a twist on a diner classic: the milkshake or sundae with drizzled chocolate. Making this chocolate explosion is an easy task as the main ingredient is, you guessed it, chocolate.  Adding anything else your heart desires, like marshmallows and syrup, will make this ‘milkshake’ extra special.

5. Raspberry Parfait

A parfait in itself is something to celebrate. I mean come on, raspberries blended with yogurt or ice cream in layers. You can add anything else you want to make one perfect, custom parfait. Try tossing in some fruit, chocolate, coconut, honey, or cinnamon–the combinations are endless. This dessert is definitely waitress worthy.

6. Waffles

Waffles in any shape are a sweet breakfast that is sure to bring a smile to someone’s face. Topping waffles off with syrup, brown sugar, jam, or some whipped cream makes this dessert breakfast a winner.

French toast is the classic American breakfast so why not have it at a diner with a tall glass of chocolate milk? Adding fruit, chocolate chips, or even coconut flakes to the mix will give you great flavor.

8. Tiramisu

Tiramisu is a dessert that will leave you wanting more. Fluffy on the inside and chocolate goodness on the outside– who can resist that? The topping is the kicker made with whipped cream and cinnamon. I will never eat regular chocolate cake again.

9. Croissants e Café

Croissants, although simple, should not be underestimated. The simplicity makes them a great choice for a ‘no fuss’ dessert with a side of coffee. What makes croissants great is the fact that they are very versatile. You can pack them with any type of fruit, jam, honey, or even chocolate! There are endless combinations.

10. Freshly Baked Muffins

Last but most certainly not least are muffins. Muffins are one of the most sought-after grab and go items. With so many different varieties, it is hard to ever choose just one. Blueberry, strawberry, raspberry; the list goes on and on.

Waitress The Musical is a must-see for all the foodies out there! Sara Bareilles, who starred as Jenna, did a phenomenal job in the role. The singing in this musical takes you to a whole new world. A world where sugar, butter, and flour help to make everything better.
