M.A.C 24/7 – An Iconic Restaurant with a New Menu

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Hawaii chapter.

M.A.C 24/7 is one of those places on Oahu that is so iconic that you can’t call yourself a local if you’ve never tried it. It’s one of those uncommon things you see in Waikiki, where you actually get more bang for your buck, with their huge portions at moderate prices and daily customer appreciation discounts like 15% off for Kama’aina (locals) on Mondays and 50% off for people working in hospitality for Industry Night on Wednesdays.

Spoon Hawaii was extremely lucky to be invited to taste their newest menu options that ranged from sweet and savory breakfast foods to protein-packed dinner items and dessert, and even included vegan and gluten free options! Here’s a list of some of our favorites that we know you’ll love too:

Breakfast:

Hawaiian Stuffed French Toast ($16): Hawaiian sweet bread just makes french toast 1000x better. That’s a fact and anyone that tries to say otherwise might need to get their noggin checked. Pair this with lemon cream cheese, strawberries, banana brulee, Chantilly whipped cream, and guava jam, and you get M.A.C 24/7’s latest creation that screams “Hawaii.” Contrary to our normal instinct to drench it in syrup, the lemon cream cheese stuffed between the breads and all the other good stuff that comes with it gave it enough sweetness to combat our need for syrup.

Lobster Mac & Cheese Benedict ($19): Yes. You read that right. It’s fried lobster mac & cheese sitting on an Island baked english muffin with a poached egg, sriracha hollandaise, and sautéed spinach. The lobster mac & cheese was so creamy and fried to perfection with a nice crunch, and that sriracha hollandaise gave the benedict a nice kick that we all need in our lives.

Dinner:

Osso Bucco ($31): Ever since our Macaroni Grill dining experience, I’ve been on the hunt for more of that soft, tender meat that comes with the osso bucco. And I think I’ve found another winner here. A huge serving of tender meat that melts in your mouth, sitting on a bed of beautifully mashed potatoes and surrounded by a garden of veggies, topped with a red wine demi glace.

Garden Napoleon ($17): My eyes went straight to this menu item first, because not only did it look like the healthiest option (new year, new me, am I right?), but it was gluten free AND vegan. But wait – there’s more. It was also not bland and boring like most vegan dishes, thanks to the roasted garlic pesto and balsamic glaze, and the pops of color that came from the different veggies made it just as photogenic as it was delicious.

Dessert:

Coco Moco ($8): I think I’ve found my new favorite dessert on the island, and this is not an exaggeration. The Coco Moco is an oversized half-baked Waialua chocolate chip cookie straight out of the oven, topped with local Lappert’s vanilla bean ice cream. The cookie was hot, gooey, soft and chewy, and the ice cream tied the whole dessert together. Did I mention the cookie is ginormous (like bigger than the size of my hand)?

There’s so many things to love about M.A.C 24/7 besides the great value and amazing food, like the fact that you can order anything off the menu 24/7 (there’s never a time that french toast is not a good choice) and that they support local. Special mahalo to Mark and the rest of the M.A.C 24/7 family for an amazing dining experience!
