A new year means new opportunities. If you’ve heard of Spoon University before, it’s finally at UH Mānoa! For those of you that don’t know about Spoon, it’s an online food publication written by college students for college students. We want our content to help you navigate the world of food, because in college, Mama might not buy your groceries, prepare your dinner, or tell you what to eat. Instead of discovering too late that the Freshman Fifteen is real or accidentally exploding your microwave during a cooking experiment, we can help you become self-sufficient and knowledgeable, so you can take care of yourselves. This is possible with the help of our writers, marketers, photographers, and videographers from all over the country.
Here are 7 reasons why joining Spoon UH Mānoa is a no-brainer.
1. It’s the newest, hottest thing on campus
When we first started Spoon UH Mānoa, we weren’t sure how big this could become on this small island. With almost two-thousand followers on Instagram in the span of 5 months, we realized that we’ve struck gold.
2. Spoon is all about food
Our world revolves around food. Teaching, learning, eating, and sharing food is our jobs, and we love it. Everyone around you will know you’re a pro foodie. People will start asking you for food advice and where to get the best of the best food. You’ll know this island inside out.
3. Spoon looks good on your resumé
You would be surprised how wide the range of opportunities is at Spoon UH Mānoa. We have positions open for anyone, whether you want to improve your journalistic, photographic, marketing, or event planning skills. Putting this experience on your resume will set you apart from your competition in the future.
4. Your work could be featured under big names
Spoon articles are often shared and featured by big names like Buzzfeed, Food Network, and Yahoo! Food. If you’re a videographer, your video could be featured on the Spoon University video bulletin board in Times Square, New York. One of our members was featured on Food Network’s Discover page on Snapchat, and got her article over 108,000 page views. We’re talking foodie superstardom here.
5. Help your homies out
Since people all over the world still don’t know how to cook on a stove, you can help them out through your articles, photos and videos. Additionally, you can teach students how to use their money efficiently (’cause we’re broke-ass mofos), give them life hacks, or even give them tips on what foods go best with weed.
6. You can be you
Since you are writing to college kids, there’s no need to be fancy with your words. You can write whatever the f*ck you want.
7. You’ll have connections between 100+ colleges in the U.S.
Spoon University wants to bring a Spoon chapter to every college in the U.S., and with a community so large, you can connect and become friends with foodies from all over the country.
