How should you spend your summer days this year? Go to as many food festivals as possible, of course! Here is a list of some events that are going on this summer in D.C. so take a break from your summer job, internship, or the gym, and take advantage of these events that either offer unlimited food/drink or free admission.
1. Truckeroo 2016 – June 17th, July 8th, August 19th
Hosted at the Capital Riverfront, the event is all about celebrating our local food trucks. I went to this food festival my freshman year, and it was nothing less than amazing. Be sure to arrive with an empty stomach because the food options are limitless. Starting at 11am (and ending at 11pm), there is live music, more food than you could ever imagine, and tons of beverages – a perfect way to spend a summer day. The best part? It’s free!
2. Around the World Cultural Food Festival – June 18th
This free event will celebrate the diversity of food that you can find throughout the world. There will be cooking demonstrations, music, dance, and of course, plenty to eat. The event will be located next to the Washington Monument from 11am until 6pm, so it’ll be hard to miss!
3. Red White & Brew Beer & Wine Festival – June 25th
Hosted by Drink the District, this event will have tunes and a selection of 100+ American beers and wines at your disposal. Enjoy unlimited tastings while you listen to music, enjoy lawn games, or have a meal at one of the food trucks. Admission is $35-$45 and you must be 21+ to enter.
4. Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle – June 25th-26th
A two-day event to kick off summer, this BBQ Battle is hosted on Pennsylvania Avenue at 7:30pm. Expect free samples, cooking demonstrations, interactive exhibits, non-stop live music, and of course a great selection of BBQ. Check out this ticket page for more details on the kinds of tickets that are available.
5. Taste on Wheels – June 26th
Taste on Wheels is another summer food truck event, hosted by Taste of D.C. Each truck will have a signature ‘taste’ that you can try, and entry for the event is $5 for general admission or $19 for bottomless drinks.
