The 2 Eateries You Need to Try Next Time You Visit Laguna Beach

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Guelph chapter.

Just across the Orange County line in the state of California, the small town of Laguna Beach isn’t just home to some of MTV’s most famous stars. It’s also home to some of the greatest eats along the Pacific Coast.

At the corner of Oak and South Coast Highway, one can find beach goers, young and old, walking barefoot from a morning of surfing and sunbathing to Wahoo’s Fish Taco. This fun and vibrant joint puts a Brazilian-Asian twist on the Mexican classic commonly found along the west coast.

Customers have the option of eating on the patio or indoors, but you can certainly find the majority of them basking in the hot California sun. If your dog is with you, no problem, all dogs are welcome on the patio.

At Wahoo’s you have the choice of getting just about any kind of meat on your tacos, including vegetarian alternatives. You also have the option of getting your tacos in a combo with rice and Cajun beans—and let me tell you, those Cajun spices do not disappoint.

Since service is so fast, you can wash it all down with a couple of cold ones and be ready to get back to the beach in no time.

Once you’ve satisfied your savoury taste buds, walk across the street to The Original Banzai Bowl for a healthy twist on a dessert that’s guaranteed to cool you down.

Banzai Bowls, more commonly known as açaí bowls, are basically smoothies made with açaí, honey, coconut milk or juice and a ton of fresh fruit. Top it off with granola, coconut shavings and more fresh fruit and you’ve got yourself a food coma.

The best part is that you don’t need to feel guilty because it is 100% healthy. My personal favourite is the Maui Sunrise. Want to make your own açaí bowl? Check out this recipe for an açaí banana smoothie.

Lineups are always out the door at Banzai, but it is worth it. Like they say, good things come to those who wait, and it doesn’t get much better than a Banzai Bowl.

Here’s a tip while you’re eating your lunch at Wahoo’s: call Banzai and place your order ahead of time. Contact information can be found here. Once you’re done with your taco, you can walk on over and get your fruity bowl of awesomeness.
