What to Order at 7 of Atlanta’s Best Pizza Joints

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at GSU chapter.

As easy as it is to order Domino’s, especially now that all you have to do is tweet a pizza emoji, you can’t always have pizza delivered. Yeah, I know, putting on pants to go get food is a struggle, but if you do manage to get off the couch and out the door, here are the top 7 pizzerias where you’re most likely to wind up.

1. Antico – West Midtown

Nestled in the newly created Little Italy division of West Midtown, Antico is the closest ATLiens will get to authentic Italian pizza. Though they’ve recently come come under fire for back wages, Antico is still running and serving up their award-winning neapolitan slices.

Why you’ll try it: The name.

Why you’ll come back: Lasagna pizza.

2. Jack’s Pizza and Wings – Virginia-Highland

This dive bar may only be open Thursday-Sunday, but their obscure pizzas are worth the week wait. Ever want to try Mac and Cheese pizza? They have it. How about Soul Food pizza complete with collard greens and gravy? Yep, they have that too.

Why you’ll try it: Sriracha candied bacon.

Why you’ll come back: Friday drink specials.

3. O4W Pizza – Old Fourth Ward

Winner of this year’s Creative Loafing Pizza Smackdown, O4W Pizza proves that rectangular pizza is just as good as circular pizza, if not better.

Why you’ll try it: The awards.

Why you’ll come back: Grandma Pie.

4. Savage Pizza – Little Five Points

Little Five Points may be one of the sketchier neighborhoods of Atlanta, but Savage Pizza is worth the risk. From the toy bin to the comic book cover wallpaper, this restaurant is just plain fun.

Why you’ll try it: The Vortex was too busy.

Why you’ll come back: The toys.

5. Fellini’s – Poney Highland

No place in Atlanta screams college more than Fellini’s. They serve beer, pizza by the slice, and most locations are open until 2am. Trust us, it’s grease heaven.

Why you’ll try it: It’s open past midnight.

Why you’ll come back: Cheap build-your-own slices.

6. Vesuvius Pizzeria – Edgewood

This downtown ATL restaurant is the perfect starting point for a night of bar-hopping on Edgewood. Start with a Thai Pie up front and finish at the speakeasy in the back for some homemade moonshine.

Why you’ll try it: You couldn’t find the speakeasy in the back.

Why you’ll come back: Thai Pie.

7. Rocky Mountain Pizza Company – Home Park

A Georgia Tech student food staple, Rocky Mountain Pizza Company is one of the better known Atlanta pizzerias. Grab a slice and try your luck against engineers at their Thursday night trivia sessions.

Why you’ll try it: You saw it in The Internship.

Why you’ll come back: Thursday night trivia.

The classiest broad you'll ever meet east of the Mississippi, she believes in the power of red lipstick, and can eat her body weight in tacos.
