There are six flavors: vanilla birthday, chocolate birthday, s’mores, chocolate peanut butter, cookies ‘n cream, red velvet and chocolate hazelnut. Three of the flavors are all-natural, using no artificial colors or flavorings, just like some candy companies are starting to do now.

When asked about her inspiration for creating cake and frosting in this manner, CEO and co-founder Haley Raphael responded with nostalgia from her youth: Flintstones frozen ice-cream pops. Cherished by kids back in the 90’s, Haley wanted to update them for a modern, cake-loving audience.

This semester, I’m one of two students helping out Haley, and I get to assemble the cake pops as well. Pops by Haley is one of the many companies that produce in the food incubator Union Kitchen (Ivy City location) in Northeast D.C.

It’s definitely an interesting way to have your cake and eat it too. You can get the pops at many locations throughout the DMV, such as Union Market, Whole Foods and Glen’s Garden Market, and now even Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York. Oh, and you can get them delivered for a party by ordering online, so what are you waiting for? Place your order now and get popping.
