Dessert Tea: The Solution to 2015 Health Resolutions?

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Georgetown chapter.

It’s 2015, and thanks to New Year’s resolutions, it seems like everyone is trying to eat and live more healthily. I have tried, but my sweet tooth is uncontrollable at times. I usually have dessert, but after a large meal when I’m just too full for anything else, a cup of tea is just what the doctor ordered. For anyone who wants to have their dessert fix without the calories and fat, try a dessert-themed tea instead!

Birthday Cake (David’s Tea)
Birthday cake tea is my ultimate favorite. I mean, who can resist? There are rainbow sprinkles in it! Some people say it smells like maple syrup, but it tastes just like a sugar cookie and it’s even better with some milk. Also, the tea is caffeine free, so having a mug post-dinner won’t keep you up at night.

Pumpkin Cheesecake (David’s Tea)
Seeing as pumpkin cheesecake is my signature addition to the Thanksgiving table (always prepared with an Oreo crust), I had to try this tea when it hit the stores in November. It turned out to be absolutely amazing, and I can’t get enough of it! Although it might seem disappointing to have pieces of chocolate that you don’t get to eat, the white chocolate chips in the tea add a wonderful creaminess that balances out the spices.

Gingerbread (Teavana)
Not only are there cake teas, but there are also cookie flavored teas for you to enjoy! I’m personally not a fan of actual gingerbread cookies, but this black tea is quite a game changer. Some of the goodness in this delectable mixture includes cinnamon sticks, candied ginger and popcorn (yes, popcorn!).

Some other flavors that make the top dessert tea list: Berry Good – so fresh and light. Pumpkin Chai – it has pumpkin shaped sprinkles! Stormy Night – a strong mix of coconut, chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. Red Velvet Cake – very tasty but missing the best part, cream cheese frosting.

Whether you add milk, sugar or drink the tea plain, having a mug of dessert tea might just be the answer to satisfying your sugar cravings and keeping your new and healthy 2015 lifestyle on track (or at least until you realize you still have holiday chocolates lying around).
