For the fourth year in a row, Washington City Paper is celebrating its Best of DC issue with live entertainment, food, and drinks from over 50 amazing DC restaurants at the DC Armory on Wednesday, April 6th at 7 pm. Buy your tickets now to be a part of this incredible event.
Here are some of our favorite dishes you can expect to taste from some of the best ranked restaurants in the District.
Pork Belly Tacos from El Centro
These super flavorful tacos have charred pork belly which melts in your mouth, pipian sauce and pickled vegetables that make for a delicious bite. This authentic Mexican restaurant in the heart of Georgetown by Chef Richard Sandoval offers great tacos, margaritas (we love frozen mango margs with a salt rim) and awesome guacamole.
Grilled Skirt Steak from Policy
Located in the U Street Corridor, this restaurant serves up some serious flavor in their notorious small plates. In addition to the super tender grilled skirt steak with yummy grilled Mexican street corn, cilantro, cayenne, green sauce, and dried chili sauce – our favorites include shrimp & polenta and roasted Brussels sprouts.
Fluffernutter doughnut from District Doughnut
You cannot go wrong with any of their artisanal and creative doughnuts from District Doughnuts, but among our favorites are the Brownbutter with cinnamon sugar and brown butter icing and the Mocha Crunch with espresso glaze, dark-chocolate-espresso drizzle and dark chocolate-covered espresso beans.
You can also catch District Doughnuts at the Georgetown University Farmer’s Market every Wednesday, along with some other yummy eats, like Timber Pizza.
NC Chopped Pork from Fat Pete’s Barbecue
The self-proclaimed “artisans of barbecue” were voted #1 barbecue in DC for a reason. Their dedication to smoking different kinds of meat and vegetables is shown through the intense flavor packed into all of their dishes. Their NC chopped pork is not your usual pulled pork; it’s smothered in NC style vinegar sauce and cole slaw which will leave you feeling full and even a bit southern.
Hummus Trio from Lebanese Taverna
Lebanese Taverna brings authentic Middle Eastern food to not only DC, but to Arlington, Bethesda, Baltimore, and Tyson’s Corner. You’ll feel like part of the family while munching on Shawarma sliders and Tabouleh. Their hummus trio features special hummus, spicy hummus with tomato and feta, and garlic hummus with chicken shawarma-and of course veggie dippers to scoop all the yumminess up.
Lobster Roll with Old Bay Fries from Hank’s Oyster Bar
Come for the oysters, stay for the fried clams, sweet hushpuppies – or even brunch. This place has it all and is serving up the freshest seafood daily. Head over to Q Street for a meal you won’t forget! The brioche bun serves as the perfect vehicle for the freshest lobster you ever had, and the fries are the perfect partner to this great sandwich.
The Heidi Chicken Sandwich from The Pub and the People
The Heidi sandwich is topped with chicken breast, cheddar, bacon, chipotle aioli, guacamole, cradled with love in a brioche bun. What more could you possibly want? This neighborhood bar has creative bites and even cooler beers (like the Coney Island Hard Root Beer) that contribute to the awesome, rustic atmosphere. Come for the drinks, stay for the food and the friends.
Shrimp and Grits from 1905
Served with sweet onion, pickled green tomatoes, coriander, squid ink blackened bread crumbs, lobster butter-these shrimp and grits will leave you speechless. This speakeasy serving up high-end cuisine in Shaw is sure to make an unforgettable night. Their first courses, entrees, and sides will leave you feeling full and cultured.
Bold Plum N Harmony from Jack Rose Dining Saloon
If you love whiskey, then you have found your Mecca. This saloon in Adams Morgan is serving some unique whiskeys (2390 to be exact), beers, and spirits, and some fun food to match. Come in the spring and enjoy the rooftop terrace.
Hope to see you there – and make sure you come hungry.
