The 10 Best Vegan and Vegetarian Bakeries, Juice Bars, and Restaurants Near Atlanta

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Gatech chapter.

In case you weren’t already aware, Hotlanta ranks number 2 out of the top 11 best cities that cater to vegetarians and vegans, making it a great place to live if you’re all about a plant-based diet. That being said, it can be tough to find places that let you order more than a bowl of lettuce let alone satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. Hopefully this list of the 10 best vegan/vegetarian spots in the Atlanta area will make it easier to find a place that lets your order from the whole menu.

1. 2B Whole Gluten Free Bakery

Located in historic downtown Alpharetta about 20 miles North of Midtown Atlanta, 2B Whole Gluten Free Bakery is something you’d expect to find while walking down the quaint streets of Paris. While everything in the bakery is gluten free, most of their items are also vegan and/or paleo. Loaves of fresh baked breads, both savory and sweet, line the countertops. There’s also an extensive assortment of vegan cupcakes, cookies, donuts, and muffins displayed behind their viewing window. Their cafe fridge houses ready-to-bake vegan cookie dough, pizzas, calzones, and gelato. In addition to all of that, they’ll soon start serving roasted quinoa veggie bowls. As if it couldn’t get any better, you can place an order online, and they’ll ship everything right to your door!

2. Dtox Juice Bar

Like your typical juice bar, Dtox Juice Bar serves up cold pressed organic juices, smoothies, coffees and teas. What makes this place really special though is the in-store menu, which includes a variety of raw vegan foods such as oatmeal served with Brazil nut milk, açaí bowls, salads, and nori rolls. They also have a wide selection of juice cleanses ranging from a hangover pack to liver and skin cleanses. And if you’re in need of that hangover pack ASAP or are in the mood for a delicious smoothie while studying, you can get it all delivered right to you through Postmates.

3. Lucky Lotus

If you’ve never been to Ponce City Market, you’re truly missing out, as it hosts nearly 30 food stalls and restaurants in the fully restored and renovated Sears, Roebuck & Company building right off of the Atlanta Beltine. The Lucky Lotus stall is located right in the thick of things on the first floor of the Food Hall, and with just under 10 smoothies on their menu, one can feel confident that the options were dwindled down to offer only the best of the best. Some of their most popular smoothies include the ‘Strawberry Shake’, which tastes like a strawberry milkshake, and ‘Figgle Sticks’, which is supposedly a great way to shake an oncoming cold. They have a case full of fresh pressed juices as well, but what really sets Lucky Lotus apart from other Juice Bars are their creamy sorbet-based açaí bowls. The base is made from açaí berries alone which is then topped with granola, fresh fruit, smooth peanut butter and shredded coconut.

4. Herban Fix

Herban Fix is a completely plant based asian fusion restaurant located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. While you you can order from their regular lunch or dinner menus, they also have a price-fixed, all-you-can-eat $25 Sunday brunch. An impressive range of delicious items are featured on their menu, including dumplings, sushi, salads, soups, and a bunch of  dessert options (many of their dishes just happen to be gluten free too). So, if you’re getting tired of feeling limited when ordering from a restaurant menu, try this place out, and you’ll truly have no limitations.

5. Rreal Taco

Two words: ‘Fried Avocado’

This place has truly stolen my heart. No, seriously. I come here at least once a week for their amazing vegan and gluten free options. Rreal Taco is a privately owned restaurant also in the center of Midtown just two doors down from the next place on our list. Their tacos are generously portioned, always fresh, and they have a large array of free toppings, salsas, and dressings. If you want a completely vegan order, try the two-taco combo with the fried avocado tacos, a side of chips and salsa, and one of their imported drinks (you can also sub in a beer or delicious horchata drink for just $2 extra). Also, on Thursday’s, they often have vegan tamales, and you can have one subbed into any combo in place of a taco. If you’re ever in Atlanta, definitely come here. Trust me, you really don’t want to miss out on this fried avocado opportunity — it’s truly game changing.

6. Kale Me Crazy

Kale Me Crazy has over ten locations in the Atlanta area, so whether you’re just inside or outside the perimeter, chances are you’re pretty close to one. They have a variety of vegetarian and vegan foods on their menu, which includes cold pressed juices, smoothies, toasts, wraps and salads. Most of these locations will deliver to you through Postmates and sometime Uber Eats, so you don’t even have to leave your apartment to be this healthy!

7. Cafe Sunflower

Possibly one of the most famous vegan restaurants in the Atlanta area, Cafe Sunflower has an impressive lunch and dinner menu. With two locations (one in Sandy Springs and one in Buckhead), you can fulfill all of your vegan or vegetarian comfort food needs. The best part about their menu is that it is all vegan with various types of fares ranging from southern comfort to asian-fusion and tex-mex. In addition to their food menu, they have fresh pressed juices, but if you’re not feeling that, try one of their homemade vegan cheesecake selections just because you can.

8. True Food Kitchen

True Food Kitchen is located at Lenox Mall in Buckhead. They have a whole farm to table mentality, and you can see everything that’s being prepped in the kitchen through their glass partition. Their menu changes seasonally, but the majority of it is either vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free. The chefs are also very accommodating in modifying most of their dishes to be completely plant based. Their spelt pizzas with almond ricotta and variety of bowls are a must-try, along with their Farmers Market Crudités appetizer where they literally bring out a bucket of colorful, raw vegetables for you (sub out the tzatziki with hummus for a vegan option). While you’re waiting for your food, you can sip on one of their various pressed juices or refreshers, and afterwards, stop by the Sprinkles cupcake ATM just two doors down for a vegan red velvet cupcake.

9. R. Thomas

Just between Buckhead and Midtown lies this vegan gem. Their menu is mostly vegetarian/vegan with a handful of completely raw vegan options as well. They offer an extremely eclectic mix of cuisines, but they honestly have anything you could think of, including smoothies served right out of a coconut. And what to know the best part? It’s open 24/7, seven days a week!

10. Upbeet

Welcome to the land of white brick walls, succulents and copper-accents. Located in the Westside provisions district of Midtown is this heaven on earth that aims to “raise the bar in sustainable food and business practices.” If their menu doesn’t say it all, then let me suggest that you check out Upbeet in person for a life changing experience. Smoothie and yogurt bowls, juices, avocado and almond butter toasts, grain bowls and salads, and we haven’t even covered all they have to offer.  The servings are large, and the vegan options are endless yet decently priced. If you’re opting for one of their salad or grain bowls, you can easily turn a $12-14 item into one under $9 just by asking for no meat and replacing it with one of their plant based options. Think of chipotle on steroids, yet completely organic, made-to-order, and with many more options.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of the spoon.
