Event Recap: Spoon F&M Launch Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at F and M chapter.

On Friday, January 16th, Spoon University began its newest conquest: Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Spoon F&M staff led the march with a launch party in the Steinman College Center, welcoming a variety of local restaurants to bring some of their best sellers on campus for hungry students excited for something other than the usual Dining Hall experience.

Tickets were sold in advance and at the door, with over 150 of F&M’s own coming out to learn more about Spoon and, of course, have some delicious samplings of what our city has to offer.

Skinny Park Juice laid out samplings of their vibrant, healthful concoctions, winning students such as Brianna Robinson (’16) over with their “Good Morning” – a mixture of beets, carrot, ginger and apple.

Molly Carney (’17) and Adriana Ellison (’17) raved about Commonwealth on Queen’s espresso brownies, a fudgy dessert with added depth from freshly ground espresso beans. Commonwealth was dubbed the “hidden gem of Lancaster” by individuals like Anne Dolan (’16) who couldn’t get enough of their walnut-apple salad.

Unsurprisingly, the hands down favorite of the evening was the Mac n’ Cheese from the Baron Von Schwein food truck. With students essentially living on the power of Easy Mac, Baron had a nonstop line hungry for as many samples of the cheesy goodness as one could hold. Their spicy pork buns also gathered a mass of fans.

Souvlaki Boys, always a campus favorite, won students over with their homemade pita chips and tzatziki and spicy feta dips.

Lancaster Cupcake (previously featured on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars) and Sugar Whipped Bakery provided students with mini-cupcakes, satisfying every sweet tooth who arrived.

When asked how they felt about Spoon’s new presence on campus and the event itself, students had nothing but rave reviews:

“This party has made me more adventurous and willing to enter the Lancaster food scene. On a college budget, not many people want to explore to find great restaurants, but now I will definitely be making my way out,” said Clement Mirol, a junior at F&M.

Students like Mark Rooney (’17), Steve Viera (’16) and Lauren Muliawan (’16) all raved about Spoon F&M’s success in bringing Spoon University closer to the Lancaster community, and that they—like all who attended—look forward to seeing what Spoon has planned next.
