The Fattiest, Most Carnivorous Atlanta Sandwich That You Have to Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Emory chapter.

Sawicki’s Meat, Seafood and More, an unassuming, artisanal deli in downtown Decatur, serves up a wide variety of salumi, fresh seafood, local cheeses and organic produce. It is also home to one of the most incredible sandwiches you will ever eat. Ever.

The Beef Tri Tip consists of grilled hanger steak and French fries on a crusty, toasted baguette, smeared with a salty aioli and some black pepper. While you must approach the situation with a “calories don’t count” mindset, the unhealthy factor is just about the only negative. There is no craving, hangover or bad day that this sandwich won’t fix. The steak is always tender and the fries crispy, which makes for a heavenly bite each and every time. And if that texture combo doesn’t make your mouth water, I’ll let you know that the aioli and pepper create a flavor you’ll be hard pressed to find on another nearby sandwich.

For more modest days, you can turn to the rest of Sawicki’s expert sandwich creations. With a list of both cold and hot sandwiches, you’ll find everything from a Cuban, to a po’boy, to a veggie option. Sawicki’s boasts the freshest and biggest variety of sandwich ingredients and toppings that I’ve experienced in Atlanta. From their spicy pork and beef meatballs to just the simple salsa verde that tops a few of their menu items, each component is delicious. And while every other sandwich I’ve tried on this menu has never disappointed me, it’s truly a mistake to skip the Beef Tri Tip. Everyone should try fries on that at least once.
