Antica Posta: A Slice of Tuscany in Atlanta

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Emory chapter.

The next time you are craving Italian food, you have to try Antica Posta. As the weather cools down, cozy up with a giant bowl of spaghetti in this Italian eatery. With a menu that’s nearly four pages long, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Antica Posta.

The Atmosphere

In the midst of bustling Buckhead life, Antica Posta is an escape from the rush. Located in an old house, you’ll start to wonder if you’ve gotten the right address when you are driving up.

When you step into Antica Posta, you immediately feel that you’ve entered someone’s home. The temperature is warm, bringing red to the surface of your cheeks.

I was lucky enough to visit Antica Posta with a large group of friends and family. The restaurant’s atmosphere facilitated lively conversation, quieted only by delicious food. Antica Posta proudly offers “quintessential Tuscan cooking.”  Let’s dive into the food.

Antipasti

Antica Posta has a diverse menu; there are options for picky and adventurous eaters alike. You can choose from a selection of salads (I personally recommend the Burrata, which I know technically isn’t a salad), and the Insalata di Marco with arugula, tomatoes, and olives was tasty as well. They also offer an antipasto misto dish with an array of cheeses, meats, and olives. They even have Spaghetti al pomodoro on the menu as an appetizer if you don’t want pasta as your main dish.

Primi Piatti

While known in Italy as the “first plates,” the pasta at Antica Posta is definitely the main event. The menu cheekily notes, “We serve our pastas with plenty of sauce, so you can dig in like a naughty kid,” so do with that what you will.

My friend, who had previously been to Antica Posta, recommended the Taglierini alla panna tartufa. Trusting her culinary opinion, I ordered it without hesitation. Depending on how hungry you are, you can order an appetizer portion or a dinner portion; I got the dinner portion, obviously.

The dish blew me away. The al dente pasta was coated with a buttery cream sauce filled with aromatic mushrooms. I really couldn’t ask for anything more from a bowl of pasta. While my friend decided to try something new, she was eyeing my plate the whole night! (Don’t worry, I shared.) She ordered the Rigatoni all’arrabbiata, which was good but nothing to write home about.

Dolci

While you’ll probably be stuffed after appetizers and dinner, make sure to save some room for dessert. Try a classic cannoli, strawberries and cream, panna cotta, or the chocolate mousse. If you’re not a fan of sweets, not to worry: you can have dessert cheese. Yes, you read that right. Antica Posta offers parmiggiano reggiano and pecorino toscano for those who prefer the savory things in life. Finish off your dessert with a fluffy cappuccino, and you will be content.
