With unpredictable Boston weather, picking a spot for a first date is genuinely difficult at times. You may plan to go for a walk because the day before was sunny with clear skies, but then realize a snowstorm is approaching. Despite the other issues that may come up with planning this ideal first date, there are always go-to spots and there’s nothing wrong with a backup plan! Here are some cute and affordable best first date spots in Boston, Massachusetts.
1. Thinking Cup
Whether you simply want to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, or actually get a meal, this hip coffeehouse is the ideal first date spot. There are various places to sit and it’s located in Downtown Boston right by the Boston Commons! Vibing with an artsy room and getting to know someone is a great combination. This is one of the best first date spots in Boston. I personally recommend the B.A.L.T. sandwich.
2. Trident Booksellers and Cafe
Depending on how you feel about bookstores, this spot is perfect for anyone that enjoys the combination of food and books/miscellaneous items. This cafe is aesthetically pleasing, offers places to eat both upstairs and downstairs and has a small bookstore located on the first level. You can shop for your next read, unique socks or even foreign magazines! This will give you plenty to do and explore on your first date. Plus, it’s located on Newbury Street!

3. Charles River Esplanade
Depending on the unpredictable Boston weather, this is one of the most amazing places to have a first date. Preferably a better idea in the summer, the Esplanade is a place you can walk around, enjoy the view of the Boston skyline, watch the sunset or even simply sit on the dock. It’s also free!
4. Skywalk Observatory
What’s more romantic than a date with a view? With an overlook of Boston from several levels up in the Prudential Center, the Skywalk Observatory offers an ideal spot to watch the sunset or even talk. If you’re scared of heights, this may not be the best idea! Grab dinner first and check out a beautiful overlook for a memorable date not missing a single thing.

5. Walking around the North End and Bova’s Bakery
Nothing beats a nice walk while getting to know each other (also getting some exercise) before eating at one of the greatest bakeries in the city. The best part about this first date spot is that Bova’s Bakery is open 24 hours! It not only offers Italian pastries, but also serves sandwiches. Enjoy the best tiramisu in the country as voted by Phantom Gourmet!
Whether you get to do any of these ideas or they sparked inspiration for another first date spot, just remember to try to pick something that will be fun for both of you! Involving food is never a bad idea, but not completely necessary. Whether you’re eating a cannoli at Bova’s Bakery or walking around the Esplanade on a nice day, your first date is going to be incredible. Don’t stress and good luck!
