5 Valentines Day Chocolate Treats You Can Make in a Dorm

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at DU chapter.

Ah, Valentines Day. Most people either love it or hate it. I just view it as a chance to eat some darn good chocolate. If you don’t like chocolate, first, I’m sorry, and second, this list probably isn’t for you. For all my chocolate lovers, however, keep reading! If you want to make that someone special (or your friends) a delicious dessert for Valentines Day, but are stuck in a dorm room and don’t know what to do, look no further! All of these recipes can be made with minimal equipment and are super fast. So instead of just buying a box of chocolates, show them you care by making one (or all) of these chocolate treats instead!

1. Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

I mean, obviously. If there were any one chocolate treat that represented Valentines Day, it would be the chocolate-covered strawberry. It’s really the perfect combination, you’ve got the red color of the strawberry, smooth chocolate, they’re finger food that you can romantically feed to someone special (a.k.a. yourself) and the best part? They’re probably the easiest possible recipe to make on Valentine’s Day. Not to mention, you can customize them any which way you please. Chopped peanuts on top, shredded coconut, or maybe just more chocolate? I dunno, maybe that’s just me. Recipe here

2. Chocolate Peanut Butter Bark

If you’ve got some parchment paper and a baking pan (or even a plate), you can easily whip up some fancy-looking chocolate peanut butter bark. This bark looks incredibly classy, but is really as simple as can be and gives you a chance to get creative! It’s ready in around ten minutes so you truly have no excuse and let’s not forget the obvious: it’s chocolate + peanut butter. Doesn’t get much better than that. Pretty sure I could just get lost in those swirls

3. Chocolate Avocado Truffles

Although the avocado craze has died down a little bit, that doesn’t take away from the fact that they’re pretty much a wonder fruit. What can’t you do with an avocado? They’ve got healthy fats, potassium, and fiber and create the most delectable breakfasts. Now, they serve as an ingredient in desserts, too! Treat yourself and your special friend(s) with a healthy treat that makes you feel great (oh, and tastes good as well).

4. Chocolate Pastry

Frozen puff pastry is possibly one of the best inventions of the culinary world, and the possibilities are seriously endless if you’ve got a box. If flaky buttery layers of dough and melty chocolate don’t say “love”, I don’t know what does. Another two-ingredient basic recipe, you could also dress it up with some fresh fruit and ice cream on top for uber-decadence. There’s not much that’s classier than braided pastries, so bake to impress with this simple recipe

5. Chocolate Banana Ice Cream

Yes, the “nice” cream trend continues. Just like avocados, bananas are another fruit that just don’t quit. They serve as replacements for unhealthy ingredients in many desserts, plus they contribute natural sweetness. This naturally-sweetened recipe will satisfy any sweet tooth and is the way into anyone’s heart.

Everyone needs a little sweetness on Valentines Day, and these are the simple, quick and easy answer. Make a big batch, share the love, and have the tastiest Valentines Day ever.
