The Sketchy Reason You Should Stop Drinking White Wine

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Denison chapter.

There’s nothing like unwinding with a nice glass of wine after a long Monday. We all have our preferences though on the type; red, white, or rosé. For me, I’m partial to white wine because I think it’s the perfect medium between red and rosé. Red doesn’t look good on my teeth and rosé is generally too sweet. However, white wine could be contributing to a not so fun skin condition.

White Wine May Cause Rosacea

A study by the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology expressed that women who drink a lot of white wine have a higher risk of developing rosaceaThe team of researchers tracked thousands of women’s drinking patterns over a period of 14 years. The study concluded that having one glass of white wine a week gives you a 14 percent chance of developing the condition. The study later confirmed that, having more than one glasses a week bumps you up to a whopping 49 percent.

Rosacea is a skin condition that causes redness of the nose, cheeks, and forehead. Causes of the condition have been unknown, so finding that white wine may contribute is big news. Other possible causes include genetics and environmental factors.

So, Drink Red Wine Instead

Red wine is really just different grapes, so don’t shut it down yet. Did you know that a glass of red wine can actually help your health? The Mayo Clinic claims that ingredients in red wine could help prevent coronary artery disease (which causes heart attacks).

So next time you’re in the wine aisle, swap a bottle of white for red. Of course, you can still have a glass or two of white, just make sure it’s not every time you have a wine night.
