How to Peel a Frozen Banana, Because Adulting

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Denison chapter.

We’ve all been there. You walk over to the fridge and pull out your frozen bananas, when you suddenly realize that you’d forgotten to peel them (ugh!)

Before you begin the painstakingly difficult process of trying to hand peel each banana, or worse case, just giving up and throwing them in the trash, you should know one thing! A non-peeled, rock-solid banana doesn’t have to be the end of your banana treat dreams. There is, in fact, another way to peel a frozen banana. Plus, it’s super easy!

Instructions

  1. Samantha Pollock

Gather all of the things you’ll need to peel your banana: a cutting board, a sharp knife and a frozen banana!

  2. Samantha Pollock

After removing your banana from the freezer, let it thaw for 3 to 5 minutes. This will allow the banana to become a little softer, which will make it easier to cut. This also makes it easier for you to touch the banana without freezing your fingers off!

  3. Samantha Pollock

Once the banana has thawed, cut off both tips. This will make it easier to remove the peel when it comes time to do so.

  4. Samantha Pollock

Take the remaining section of your banana, and cut it in half. Like the previous step, this makes the peeling of your banana safer and more manageable!

  5. Samantha Pollock

One at a time, take each piece of your banana and cut a slit down the length of it. Be sure to make the cut deep enough to slice through the peel, but not so deep that it digs into the banana. (This step is a lot easier than it sounds!)

And finally, take the edge of your knife and carefully wedge it between the banana and the peel. Slowly slide the knife downward to remove the peel from the banana. Repeat this process until the entire peel has been removed!

Once you’re done, you’ll have a mushy banana perfect for your scrumptious banana bread or delicious smoothies. Plus, you’ll never have to waste another perfectly yummy banana again!
