10 Reasons Why You Should Eat More Bananas

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Denison chapter.

I love bananas, and not only because of their sweet taste and the fact that they are perfectly “pre-packaged” in nature. Bananas are one of the best value foods around, and they come with a variety of benefits and a variety of uses, making them a true superhero in the fruit world. Here are some reasons why bananas are the ultimate fruit.

1. They’re a Superfood

Compared to apples, bananas have twice as many carbohydrates, five times as much vitamin A and iron, and three times as much phosphorus. Bananas are also rich in potassium, fiber, vitamin C and natural sugars. Because the fruit’s sugar content is balanced with fiber, it helps maintain a healthy blood glucose level. Even people with diabetes can enjoy a banana.

High in potassium and low in salt, bananas are able to lower blood pressure and protect against heart attacks and strokes.

3. They Give You That Perfect Smile

Eating a banana can lower the body temperature and cool you off on a hot day. Make it into a refreshing and healthy smoothie to cool you down even more.

5. They Give You That Extra Boost

Eat a banana to energize you before a workout, because they contain natural compounds that help to boost the body with natural energy. Two bananas can power you through an hour and a half workout or walk, or whatever exercise method you choose. Aside from providing energy, bananas can also protect against muscle cramps during workouts.

6. They Remove Warts

Remove a wart by placing the inside of a piece of banana peel against the wart and taping it in place. You can also remove splinters by taping a piece of banana peel on the splinter. The enzymes in the banana peel help dislodge it from the skin.

7. They Can Cure Your Hangover

Bananas are full of the essential vitamins to replenish the body and reduce the effect of a hangover after a night out. Sometimes you just need something more than a straight up banana when you’re hungover, so disguise this superfood with a to-die-for banana pop.

8. They Keep Things Moving

Well-ripened bananas have a type of fiber that helps to restore and maintain regular bowel functions. Bananas are also a natural antacid, providing relief from acid reflux and heartburn.

9. They Relieve Itching
