It’s almost that time of the year again: Halloween. Time for Jack-O-Lanterns, candy and costumes, oh my! Don’t have a costume ready? Fear not, Spoon readers! With these food costume ideas, you’ll be the center of a very hungry Halloween crowd in no time.
1. Fried Egg & Bacon

This costume puts a little spin on the classic Halloween house-egging prank (which I most definitely never participated in…). Just take a white t-shirt and stick a yellow circle on it, either with construction paper or fabric paint. This costume is easier than an egg over-easy, so get crackin’! You could even turn it into a breakfast bomb of a couples costume: have your significant other find red fabric and tan fabric and dress up like bacon, and put the “heart” in “hearty breakfast.”
2. Sushi

Want to class it up this Halloween? Nothing screams class like eating a piece of sushi—or dressing up like one. Throw on a white shirt, stick a salmon-esque pillow on your back and strap on a black belt, black tape or black fabric for that seaweed wrap. Bam, you’ve officially become a piece of sushi. No chopsticks necessary.
3. Piñata

Okay, piñatas aren’t food, but they do contain candy so they deserve a little lovin’ too. Take colorful streamers and cut lines into them to get that distinct piñata texture. With fabric glue, attach these textured pieces to a shirt (and maybe a hat if you’re extra enthusiastic). If you’re really feeling festive, go ahead and wear a fanny pack filled with candy to really sell the costume. If bystanders spontaneously hit you with a stick and demand candy, you know your costume’s a success.
4. Bag of Jelly Beans

What’s colorful, bean-shaped and full of air? The jelly beans in this costume! First, find a clear plastic bag. Cut holes in it for arms and legs, but make sure they’re not too big or your “jelly beans” will fall through. Step into your plastic bag and fill it with colorful balloons for jelly beans. Just make sure no one eats them, or they’ll be sorely disappointed (and possibly poisoned).
5. Doughnut

It may be human nature to adore doughnuts. They’re a deadly combination of cute and crave-able, so why not be one for Halloween? Either buy a doughnut-themed pool floaty or make your own with paint and a tan floaty. Simply put your floaty on and wear your doughnut costume with pride, ’cause you’re one delicious piece of fried dough. Or just a person with a last minute costume. I prefer to believe the prior.
