How I Ate My Way Through Family Weekend at Colgate University

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Colgate chapter.

When the parents are in town, it’s important to hit all the good spots. Here are the places in and around Hamilton, New York where I feasted during Colgate’s annual Family Weekend:

The Brewster Inn:

My favorite place from the weekend! Incredibly delicious, but definitely on the fancier side…so probably only an option when the rents are in town. I had the cedar plank salmon with a corn flan, which was incredibly delicious. Located in Cazenovia, the inn is a worthy reason to venture out of the Colgate bubble!

New York Pizzeria:

I finally had a pizza from Slices this weekend! I have been to the iconic establishment many times, albeit never in day light, but Friday was my first time ever actually ordering for myself. To lay out the scenario it was Halloweekend, I was supposed to meet my parents for breakfast the next morning, and I had lost my phone with my Gate card on route to a frat. Long story short, that slice was a cathartic experience.

The Colgate Inn:

An old stand bye that never fails! I went on Saturday night for the buffet, which was much appreciated by a girl who has become all too accustomed to unlimited meal swipes. I highly suggest the Utica greens and the Tollhouse pie

Flour & Salt Bakery:

As someone who hates waiting in line, but loves carbs, this place really plays with the emotions. The bagels are obviously a must-have, but I personally find their baked goods to be incredibly underrated. My go-to orders include the chocolate cakes balls and the chocolate chip cookies

Clinton Cider Mill:

Fall is disappearing before out eyes, so take advantage of seasonal activities before it is too late! The Clinton Cider Mill, with its endless apple-based creations, is most definitely worth the drive. The kitschy decor and endless apple-based treats makes this place a fun way to kill a Sunday afternoon. My picks: the hot cider, the cider slush, and as many free samples as you can get your paws on!
