The 13 Most Over-The-Top Desserts in New Jersey

New Jersey is often known as the Garden State. There is an abundance of fresh produce, like blueberries, peaches, corn and tomatoes. These fruits and vegetables of staples of any New Jersey’s diet.

But there are also plenty of decadent dishes available in the Garden State, ones that are for the soul not the bikini body. And here are the ones that you can’t miss.

1. Chocolate Covered Strawberry Crazy Shake – Benny’s Bakery & Ice Cream Shoppe

There’s no need to go all the way to Black Tap in NYC for an over-the-top milkshake. Instead, take a trip to Benny’s for a delicious Crazy Shake. Some of the best flavors include chocolate covered strawberry, peanut butter cup, and birthday cake.

2. Octopus Sundae – Hoffman’s

If you’re a true ice cream lover, this dessert is for you. Hoffman’s offers a sundae compromised of eight different flavors of homemade ice cream topped with eight different toppings, whipped cream, and a cherry. Eat the whole thing in under eight minutes and win a shirt and a lifetime of honor.

3. Pink Cotton Candy Cake – Sammy D’s

Four layers of vanilla cake, four layers of creamy pink frosting, candy, sprinkles, and a heaping pile of cotton candy. Do your teeth hurt yet? If you want to indulge in the ultimate sweet pink dessert, head to Sammy D’s for a slice of cotton candy cake.

4. Red Velvet Fried Oreos – The Committed Pig

New Jersey is often recognized for its boardwalk food, like funnel cake and fried Oreos. The Committed Pig takes fried decadence to a new level with red velvet fried Oreos. Try them and you will not be disappointed.

5. Liberty Cone – Coney Waffle

Next time you’re by the beach, stop by Coney Waffle for an ice cream experience unlike any other. There are epic ice cream cones like the Liberty Cone, crazy milkshakes like the Mermaid Freak Shake, and unreal ice cream waffle boats.

6. Ariana Donut – Broad Street Dough Co.

Big fan of the Italian seven layer or “rainbow” cookie? Then you better check out the Ariana at Broad Street Dough Co., a donut composed of vanilla cake, frosting, Nutella, powdered sugar, and chocolate. Try it with a cannoli filling or a jam filling, too.

7. Oreo Overload Bagel – Bagel Nook

We’re still not completely sure if the Oreo Overload bagel from the Bagel Nook is breakfast or dessert. But what we do know is that it’s pretty dang amazing. Oreo bagel and Oreo cream cheese, and add some whole Oreos if you’re feeling extra bold.

 8. Dolce Vita – Osteria Procaccini

Have you ever wished that you could have pizza for every meal? Well at Osteria Procaccini, dessert pizza is certainly covered. A sweet, crispy crust with chocolate hazelnut spread, cannoli cream, whipped cream, and tons of fresh fruit.

9.  Ice Cream Donut Sandwich – Luigi’s Ice Cream

The combination of ice cream and donuts is already pretty awesome, but the toppings and flavors at Luigi’s put this sandwich over the edge. We recommend the cereal milk ice cream with Fruity Pebbles or Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

You may be familiar with banana splits, but the folks at Whipped Creperie have given banana splits a delicious twist. Try a crepe banana split with a fresh crepe, chocolate sauce, bananas, gelato, and powdered sugar.

11. Frozen Chocolate-Dipped Cheesecake On A Stick – Maddalena’s Cheesecake

Forget the Cheesecake Factory. For a truly unique cheesecake experience, try a slice of frozen cheesecake on a stick from Maddalena’s. Try it plain, dipped in chocolate, dipped in sprinkles, or dipped in bacon.

Whoever said paleo food can’t be decadent and delicious was very, very wrong. At Cavé, you can get satisfying dinners and unreal desserts, like this chocolate bacon brownie. The cavemen would definitely approve.
