10 London Eateries to Visit If You’re Trying to Be Healthy

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Colby chapter.

Is London only known for its royal family and fish and chips? Certainly not. This amazing city is filled with dozens of healthy and scrumptious restaurants that will keep your taste buds and bikini body happy. No matter what part of London you’re in, you can find something healthy and insta-worthy. Dozens of locally-owned cafes serving up a variety of different cuisines are on every street. Spend the day strolling and sampling through Borough Market, or shopping in Soho and then noshing on avocado toast from your fave eatery.

1. 26 Grains

Located in the colorful and quaint section of Covent Garden called Neal’s Yard, this vegan and gluten-free eatery is anything but restricted. End a morning run here with a refreshing açai bowl or warm up with porridge topped with endless superfoods.

My favorites include the Rhubarb Buckwheat Cardamom Granola—almond milk, oats and buckwheat blend, rhubarb compote, cardamom granola, and Greek tahini yogurt.  On the savory side, you can never go wrong with their drool-worthy avo toast or kale and quinoa bowl.

#SpoonTip: Don’t miss out on their drinks either. The matcha and turmeric lattes are energizing and nutritious.

2. SaladPride

Located right next to 26 grains, this spot is also all vegan and gluten-free, and offers an amazing selection of superfood salads. My favorites include the avocado toast with chili flakes and balsamic, as well as the watercress salad with butter beans and honey mustard vinaigrette.

#SpoonTip: Speaking from a gluten-free perspective, SaladPride’s GF bread is the best I’ve ever tasted. Try it with their house hummus.

3. The Good Life Eatery

Welcome to The Good Life. Enjoy this local and organic food in the cafe itself or get any of it delivered to your door. This eatery offers gorgeous, fresh, and healthy food and juices. I love their açai bowls topped with gluten-free granola as well as their delicious cold pressed juices (like watermelon and grapefruit).

4. Lundenwic

Ludenwic is a modern Aussie cafe located in Covent Garden. Although it may be tiny, its food is packed with huge amounts of flavor. Everything can be made gluten-free or vegan. They offer a delicious selection of toasties (what the Brits call grilled cheese), salads, avocado toast, bowls, and delicious coffee.

5. Farmacy

Located in the chic Notting Hill area, Farmacy puts a healthy twist on all of your favorites. They offer vegan burgers and nachos, as well as nutritious earth bowls featuring Indian and Moroccan cuisine. Their drink selection is equally as tasty. Try one of their juice shots to cure any cold (it even comes in a syringe).

Farmacy enables clean indulgence and is inspired by dishes from around the globe. They support both vegan and vegetarian diets, as well as ones free of dairy, refined sugars, additives, and chemicals.

6. The Detox Kitchen

With many locations throughout London, there is no excuse not to try this delicious deli. They serve fresh, bold, and delicious dishes that are free of wheat, dairy, and refined sugar. Their focus is on celebrating good-quality, seasonal, whole ingredients to create the comfort of a kitchen away from home. During lunch hours they have a gorgeous spread of salads and sweets perfect for when you’re on-the-go.

7. Mildreds

Mildreds is a health-driven casual, yet elegant, restaurant with locations in Soho, Camden, and King’s Cross. The clean and rustic atmosphere makes it the perfect lunch spot after a day of sightseeing or shopping. My favorites include the Sri Lankan sweet potato and green bean curry, and the rose harrisa hummus, tempeh and chargrilled flatbread.

#SpoonTip: Save room for dessert. The raw chocolate truffle cake with almond and date crust and fresh strawberries is phenomenal.

8. Beany Green

This bundle of Aussie eateries is always a great choice for brunch. They have six locations in London and offer beautifully healthy creations. Their bottomless brunch is a great deal. For £35 per person you get one hot and one cold item, as well as bottomless Prosecco, mimosas, Bloody Marys, coffee or smoothies.

9. Farm Girl

Farm Girl has a holistic and healthy, yet simple approach to the Australian cafe culture. Located in the heart of Notting Hill, Farm Girl values fresh, nutritionally-nurturing ingredients and delivers them in a warm and welcoming environment. Make sure to try their gluten-free buckwheat mix with amber maple syrup, fresh berries, and coconut shavings.

10. Borough Market

Borough Market is a must-try if you are ever in London for more than twelve hours. The South Bank location is filled with hundreds of vendors selling fresh and local produce and ethnic foods. There are dozens of gluten-free, vegan and lactose-free options. I enjoyed The Veggie Table’s vegan burger made with black beans and beets.

#SpoonTip: The samples are amazing at Borough Market. You’ll feel as though you’ve eaten an entire meal just by sampling all of the delicious foods.
