San Fernando Valley’s culinary scene is experiencing a facelift. Petit Trois — a trendy spot pioneered by Chef Ludo Lefebvre — is one of the restaurants to thank. Petit Trois Le Valley is now Chef Ludo’s fourth restaurant (along with partners Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo), with others including the second Petit Trois location, Trois Mec and Trois Familia. The restaurant opened April 26 and is situated in a prime location on the iconic Ventura Boulevard. This new space brings a classy element to the valley scene with checkered floors, marble bar countertop, mirrored walls and an open kitchen.
I visited Petit Trois Le Valley for brunch and was met with a simple menu that featured little twists on classic, French dishes. The restaurant offers dishes for people looking to eat more traditional meals, such as croque monsieur, omelette Petit Trois and steak frites. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary though, Petit Trois offers a very rich, melt in your mouth, Big Mec double cheeseburger with a foie gras bordelaise sauce. Chef Ludo also does a spin on fried chicken — something he became famous for at his fast food joint, Ludo Bird — with his confit-fried chicken leg. I ordered the frisée-lardon salad with a poached egg and the croque monsieur. The monsieur was gooey and oozing with salty bechamel, while the vinegary frisée salad complimented the rich sandwich.
A larger location (49 seats and 12 at the bar) means a larger menu for Petit Trois. Petit Trois Le Valley includes some of Chef Ludo’s newer dishes, including the Mec Muffin, ham and cheese waffles, Niçoise salad and fried chicken. These are all in addition to those brought from the original location. Chef Ludo lives right around the corner from the restaurant, which could explain the interest in pursuing a Sherman Oaks spot. The three partners also bought the space next door, which will be turned into a grab-and-go marketplace for food and pastries.
Petit Trois Le Valley is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are interested in dining in, I recommend making a reservation a few weeks in advance. Although the restaurant is about a month old, it is already very busy! Bon appetit.
