7 Foods That Are Now Made Out of Cauliflower Because It’s 2019

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Cal Poly chapter.

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve probably noticed that the cauliflower trend has absolutely exploded in 2019. According to Nielsen data, packaged cauliflower products have grown by 71% over the past year. Normally, cauliflower isn’t everyone’s favorite vegetable, but somehow it has taken the food world by storm. Trader Joes’ cauliflower gnocchi may have started this initial craze, but this cruciferous veg has snuck its way into practically any food you can think of.

Here are seven foods that are now made out of cauliflower, whether you like it or not.

Caulipower Cauliflower Mylk

When I got an email from Caulipowered on March 30th announcing this mylk, I honestly thought it was a premature April Fool’s joke. To my surprise, they had this veggie-based mylk on their website with a “Find in Stores” button below. I still haven’t been brave enough to try this one, but if I had to choose the most innovative cauliflower product on this list, it would have to be this mylk.

Purely Elizabeth Cauli Hot Cereal

Next up is the Purely Elizabeth Cauli Hot Cereal that debuted at the Natural Foods Expo recently. Primarily known for their high-quality, bougie granolas, the brand has now expanded into oat cups. That leads us to these grain-free cauli hot cereal cups, which are made with a freeze-dried cauliflower base and offered in two flavors: cinnamon almond and strawberry hazelnut. Honestly, I’ll never be able to give up my beloved oats, but I’ll definitely give these a shot once they are released.

From the Ground Up Cauliflower Crackers & Pretzels

These two snacks by From the Ground Up were some of my favorites at the Fancy Food Show this year. The pretzels are extra crunchy, nicely salted and don’t have a prominent cauliflower flavor. The nacho cheese crackers are out of this world, so if you’re vegan like me and used to love Cheez-its, these are the perfect alternative. I buy these frequently, so if you see any at your local grocery store, I definitely recommend you grab them for a salty, cheesy snack (without the dairy!).

Caulipower Cauliflower Baking Mix

Designed to replace flour in a 1:1 ratio, this mix has a much lower carbohydrate content at 14g per serving. It is also vegan-friendly, which is a score because many popular cauliflower products also contain eggs. This product is designed to replace flour in any recipe, so experiment away!

Outer Aisle Gourmet Cauliflower Sandwich Thins

With the clever slogan, “Carbs are toast,” Outer Aisle Gourmet makes a variety of cauliflower-based products. Their newest launch is these sandwich thins, which come in several flavors such as original, Italian and jalapeño. I have definitely been seeing these thins trending on Instagram, used as a base for avocado “toast,” with cream cheese and sweet toppings, or for mini pizzas. The combinations truly are endless.

Cauli’flour Foods Pasta

With just two ingredients, lentils and cauliflower, this Cali’flour foods pasta is a high-protein and gluten-free alternative to regular noodles. Not that there’s anything wrong with regular Barilla pasta, but some might prefer this veggie-based option. Boasted to never fall apart, this pasta can be used in a myriad of ways. This noodle option could be great in a veggie pasta with homemade pesto.

Year of the Cauliflower

Whether you like it or not, my guess is that the cauliflower craze will continue. If you’re totally on board with this trend, there are hundreds of cauliflower recipes out there as well as more cauliflower products that aren’t on this list. Already have some cauliflower lying around and feeling inspired? These cauliflower chocolate chip cookies might be a good place to start.
