The 4 Best Places in Boston for Bagels and Lox

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at BU chapter.

When I moved to Boston, one of my most serious concerns was where I was going to find bomb-a** bagels and lox. As a Jewish girl from LA, my standards are high. Thankfully, I’ve found places even my grandparents would approve of.

Mamaleh’s

If you have any interest in Jewish deli food, I suggest you go to Mamaleh’s immediately. Their bagels and lox are among the best I’ve ever had, and they even offer tofutti (vegan cream cheese).

There are a bunch of different kinds of lox on the menu at Mamaleh’s, but my absolute favorite is the unsmoked salmon. I recommend ordering your bagel and lox in sandwich form rather than a platter.

Saltie Girl

Saltie girl has the best of the best for every kind of raw seafood. Unsurprisingly, their bagel and lox is perfectly fresh and flavorful. Also, the presentation is Instagram-worthy.

One unique thing about Saltie Girl is that they offer pastrami lox, which is definitely worth trying too.

Eastern Standard

Eastern Standard is my go-to for a solid Sunday brunch. While all of their brunch options are on-point, their bagel and lox is especially impressive. I appreciate that Eastern Standard was not stingy with the quantity of fresh salmon on the plate.

Pavement Coffehouse

I was surprised when I found out that Pavement Coffehouse is not only a fantastic spot for lattes all over Boston, but is also bagel and lox heaven. Their bagel and lox keeps it simple with fresh tomatoes and onions.

I hope every bagels and lox enthusiast in this city has the opportunity to try each of these fabulous places. I promise, you’ll be impressed despite wherever you’re from.

I spend absurd amounts of money on food. But if it's good sushi, it's all worth it.
