This Fast Service Spot in Fenway Will Satisfy Your Greek Cravings

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at BU chapter.

I have a soft spot for Greek. Growing up, my mom always had a container of tzatziki in the fridge to dip veggies or pita in, and we ordered take-out from the Greek spot in my hometown several times a month.

So what was I to do while away at school? No kitchen means no freshly baked pita, freshly grilled meats, or creamy tzatziki sauce. I needed to find a Greek place in Boston.

Obviously, they existed, I just hadn’t taken the time to find them. Lucky for me, I was recommended to check a fast service joint called Saloniki Greek, and let me tell you, it is good.

Saloniki’s is seriously steps away from BU’s campus in Fenway Park. The building has floor to ceiling windows on all sides, giving you great views of surrounding cityscape and tons of natural light. The decor is bright and clean with that signature Mediterranean blue accent. It’s also much larger than it appears from the outside. There is definitely room to chow with all your BFFs.

When you go to the counter to order, the first thing you see is the hot griddle for the pita. Once you place your order, they grab a ball of pita dough and run it through the machine that flattens and slides it onto the griddle. Talk about fresh but fast!

From here on out it is like an assembly line. Choose a pita wrap, rice plate, or salad and add chicken, pork, lamb, roasted eggplant or zucchini-feta fritters as your base. Then pick a sauce and you’re ready to go.

If you have a hard time making decisions or Greek style food is new to you, they have several combinations put together to try called “Classics.” I decided to go this route, despite my pre-existing love for Greek, and ordered the Niko.

The Niko has lemon oregano chicken, tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions and greek fries. Prior to coming to Saloniki’s, I actually had never had Greek fries (essentially fried potatoes disks) inside my pita wrap, but it was life-changing. The chicken had a strong flavor that held up to the thick tzatziki, and the pita was just the right size to hold everything in.

They also have traditional greek yogurt with toppings like honey, fig jam or lemon curd as well as baklava crisps. Your sweet tooth will not be left out of this experience.

Saloniki Greek is a fresh and super delicious spot when you’re in a pinch but don’t want to skimp on quality.
