Centinela Cafe: the Hidden Mexican-American Fusion Gem of Marina Del Rey

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at BU chapter.

If you’re an LA native like me, you most likely have driven down Centinela a couple times. I bet you’ve never tried Centinela Cafe in Marina Del Rey though. I hadn’t until a few years ago, deciding to give it a try was a decision I’ll never regret.

My favorite dish is their Chili Cheese Fries, extra crispy. I’m not a big fan of chili when it’s not homemade but this chili is different. It’s perfectly spicy and doesn’t look like sloppy mush topped with a generous layer of grated cheddar.

A close second favorite is their Asada Burrito that comes with an unbeatable spicy salsa.

Centinela serves breakfast all day, many of which are American style (pancakes, waffles, etc…) and then some with a twist of Mexican influences like added chorizo or salsa.

Reasonable prices make this small, family business great. Everyone who works there is friendly, they’re incredibly welcoming as they recognize all their returning customers. Check it out next time you’re in Marina Del Rey, you’ll be joining the ranks of their returning clientele.

I am majoring in public relations and minoring in journalism and love everything food. Pizza, pasta, bacon and CHEESE.
