NYC Sweets: Molly’s Cupcakes

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Brooklyn chapter.

There’s nothing better after a long and tiring summer day, or any day and season for that matter, than treating yourself to a sweet, rich, airy, and fluffy cupcake as you bask in the liveliness of New York City.  Molly’s Cupcakes on Bleecker Street takes the dessert game to an entirely new level with its divine creations and heavenly cupcake fillings. You shouldn’t expect anything less from recipes that have landed various accolades from Cupcake Wars Champion to Top 10 Cupcake Bakeries by USA Today.  Without further ado, I’m going to share a few of the many flavors that Molly’s Cupcakes has to offer.

Somoa

I don’t like girl scout cookies… said nobody ever.  If you’re interested in a dessert that satisfies your childhood cravings and fits perfectly into the reminiscent environment of the bakery, complete with school desks and swings, the Somoa cupcake is the perfect one for you. Made of vanilla cake, buttercream, toasted coconut, chocolate and caramel drizzle, shortbread cookie, and an amazing caramel filling, there is nothing not to like about this classic take on my personal favorite girl scout cookie.

Blueberry Cheesecake

I’m not going to lie, blueberry is not my favorite fruit, especially when combined with a dessert like cheesecake.  While this cupcake is definitely not my ideal dessert, I still enjoyed its uniquely creamy consistency and the flawless design of the frosting and its toppings.  This cupcake made of vanilla cake with cheesecake baked in, cinnamon graham cracker pieces, pastry cream, and glazed blueberries may not be the one for me, but for others it may be a match made in oven (yep…that’s my attempt at a pun).

Cake Batter

As some unknown person once said, save the best for last.  I can say with complete certainty that the cake batter cupcake is the most amazing cupcake I’ve had in my entire life.  If you’ve never had the pleasure of eating runny cake batter (and yes, it’s perfectly safe to eat), then you’re in for a life-changing surprise.  Made of vanilla confetti cake, vanilla buttercream, festive sprinkles, and of course raw cake batter, this cupcake is a force to be reckoned with. Don’t forget to capture a picture of your sweet treat so you can remember the time you fell in love from first bite (and obvi for your obligatory insta post).
