Spruce up Your Breakfast Basics in Thorne

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Bowdoin chapter.

We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but for a lot of us, it also seems to be the most boring. And we’re real adults now, right? We’re supposed to wake up in time for this stuff.

But with Thorne’s hot breakfast ending at 9:30 and the difficulty of making it to Moulton in time to order eggs, we had to come up with some new ways to get ourselves out of bed in the morning:

1. Peanut Butter Toast with Apples/Strawberries

Who said bananas were the only fruit that could sit on a bed of peanut butter toast? The crunch of an apple makes this toast a thousand times better than its traditional, and honestly kinda slimy, counterpart (that’s you, bananas).

And if you’re more into the classic PB&J: try replacing your jelly with real strawberries: it’s better and better for you!

#SpoonTip add cinnamon, honey or nutmeg to either toast to spice things up a little more!

2. Chocolate Oatmeal

Once my mom stopped feeding me Dinosaur Egg Oatmeal I stopped appreciating this beautiful grain-soup. But I’m coming back around, because with just a sprinkle of cocoa powder, oatmeal can become a breakfast-dessert once more!

#SpoonTip: Anything chocolate + Peanut Butter = Reeses *insert mouth watering*

3. Breakfast Cupcakes

After dinner is a long time to wait for dessert; sometimes we need it bright and early. Slather some cream cheese onto a blueberry muffin and treat yourself to this mock cupcake next time you’re craving some morning sweets.

4. Eggs Your Way

Getting bored of your everyday egg routine, but don’t want to give up the protein packed breakfast? Well spruce up your eggs by making a breakfast sandwich. There are endless combinations from adding different meats, types of cheese, and veggies. Don’t forget you can play with the type of bread you use, a bagel versus an english muffin can truly make a difference.

#SpoonTip: Add hot sauce, chili flakes, or fresh cracked black pepper to give your eggs a kick.
