Binghamton’s The Colonial is Participating in Restaurant Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Binghamton chapter.

Tired of the cliché college bars that have taken over State Street?  Well, you need to walk no further than three blocks, because Court Street is now home to Binghamton’s new up-and-coming pub, The Colonial.  Maybe it’s the classic Americana style, or the twenty one beers they have on tap, or even the fact that they label their men’s bathroom as the George Washington room, but The Colonial possesses a classic appeal that most bars in Binghamton seem to lack.

If that’s not enough, they have also graciously taken up the Binghamton tradition of Restaurant Week, offering the special of an appetizer, entree, and desert for a reasonable 20 dollars from now until April 2nd.

I kicked it off with a butternut squash risotto croquette, hot and oh-so-savory.  Almost reminiscent of a southern comfort food, it is served in pairing with a cool, sharp maple yogurt that provides a nice contrast.  By the end I considered  licking the plate for more.

Then came what I can undoubtedly say was my favorite, the chicken pot pie. Crispy pastry flowing with sweet gravy and vegetables that would put anyone in a nostalgic mood for a Thanksgiving-like entrée.

And finally, dessert. Honestly, it’s home-style milk and cookies – how could you go wrong? Both the freshly baked butterscotch and molassey chocolate cookie were classic and good enough to rival the best grandma’s out there.

Colonial is a great restaurant, great bar, and an absolute must this restaurant week. Special thanks to the owners for letting us sample their menu!
