It’s that time of the year again. October nights filled with Hocus Pocus marathons and costumes galore. The scariest thing you may encounter this Halloween season, though, is the amount of calories hiding in your favorite candy. You might find yourself asking: Which Halloween candy is the worst for you? Don’t be fooled by these sneaky Halloween treats. Read up and find out which of these five popular candies are actually the worst for you this spooky season.
1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Chocolate and peanut butter; what more could you want? Reese’s are a classic Halloween favorite. They candy company even went as far to make pumpkin and eyeball shaped Reese’s. One regular package of Reese’s contains 2 cups which amounts to 210 calories, 12 grams of fat, and 22 grams of sugar. On the plus side, it also has 5 grams of protein. If you go for Reese’s pieces, 38 pieces contain 150 calories, 7 grams of fat, and 16 grams of sugar.
2. Kit Kat
Now onto my personal favorite: Kit Kat. With many varieties such as dark chocolate, white chocolate, and strawberry you’ll never be bored of this candy. A regular sized Kit Kat will set you back 210 calories, 11 grams of fat, and 22 grams of sugar. These bad boys have 2.7 grams of protein, though! If you opt for the fun size version of Kit Kat you’ll be eating 70 calories, 3 grams of fat, and 6 grams of sugar. Not too bad considering it’s pretty hard to resist this Halloween treat.
3. Twix
Twix is yet another super popular Halloween candy. One Twix package contains 250 calories, 12 grams of fat, and 24 grams of sugar. You can also still enjoy the caramel, chocolatey goodness that is Twix with less the calories in their fun size bar. It has 80 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 8 grams of sugar. Either way, a Twix bar will definitely satisfy your Halloween cravings.
4. Snickers
Snickers really does have it all: peanuts, nougat, caramel, and of course chocolate. A full size Snickers bar serves up 250 calories, 12 grams of fat, 27 grams of sugar. Because of the nuts found in a Snickers bar you’ll also be getting 4 grams of protein. A less spooky calorie count can be found in the fun size version. It has 80 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 7 grams of sugar.
5. Candy Corn
Last, but not least, is the symbolic candy of Halloween: Candy Corn. Opinions on this Halloween treat are pretty polarized but if you’re a candy corn lover you would probably like to know that 21 pieces of these contain 150 calories, 0 grams of fat, and 34 grams of sugar. And if you claim to hate this spooky sweet, maybe give it one last chance…there’s always time for a Halloween miracle.
You can’t go wrong with any Halloween candy but maybe next time check out the nutrition label just to be safe. The candies with the scariest amount of calories are a Snickers and a Twix bar as they weigh in at 250 calories each. But in terms of sugar content, Candy Corn definitely takes the cake with a whopping 34 grams of sugar in just 21 bite size triangles. Happy haunting!
