Oath Craft Pizza is a gourmet pizza shop that just opened on Boylston Street at Chestnut Hill Square in the middle of March. Oath is known for the unique way in which they cook their pizzas. The dough, which, when cooked, tastes similarly to a fried wonton chip, is already prepared and ready to be topped when you place your order. Then, the employees assemble the toppings onto your pizza and flash cook it for 90 seconds. It doesn’t take long for your pizza to be ready, but even if it did, trust me, it would be worth it.
The Food
In order of my preference:
The “Luau” is Oath’s twist on a Hawaiian pizza. The thin, crunchy, wonton-like crust was topped with barbecue pulled pork, pineapple, mozzarella cheese, crushed red pepper flakes, scallions, and drizzled with a honey barbecue sauce. If you like Hawaiian pizza, this is a must try.
The “Spicy Mother Clucker” has a witty name and a delectable combination of toppings. This punny pie is Oath’s twist on a buffalo chicken pizza. It was topped with chunks of Sriracha chicken, rosé pickled onions, scallions, mozzarella cheese, and drizzled with Oath’s secret sauce and Sriracha for just one last kick.
The “Bella” is most similar to a Margherita pizza with it’s roasted cherry tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, roasted garlic, basil, and balsamic drizzle. It resembled a Caprese salad on delicious pizza crust.
The “Free Bird” was my least favorite of the flavors I sampled. Compared to the other three, which had so many different flavors going on, I found it to be a little boring. This pie looked great on paper with mozzarella cheese, tomato, rosé pickled onion, grilled chicken, parmesan cheese, scallions, and barbecue drizzle. However, I was just not crazy about it.
Bonus: The Triple Chocolate Cookie Dessert Pizza
The same pizza crust was topped with chocolate chip cookie dough, chocolate chips and ricotta cheese before it was flash cooked. When it came out, the chocolate chip cookie dough was in its gooey, half-baked prime and the ricotta cheese and chocolate chips had softened, but were not completely melted. That dessert pizza will probably go down as one of the best desserts I have had in my life, which is dangerous since Oath is so close to Boston College.
Next time you find yourself at the Mall at Chestnut Hill or at the Chestnut Hill Square, be sure to stop into Oath pizza for some lunch or dinner. If you’re by yourself, Oath offers half pizzas, which is three slices of one flavor. Or if you’re with friends, try many different flavors by splitting the toppings on a full pizza. You really can’t go wrong no matter what you choose.
Sweet cheeses that’s good.
