Fall has arrived and so has apple picking season. With that being said, grab a friend or family member and pick some fresh apples – which are perfect for fall baking! There are tons of recipes on how to turn your basket full of apples into five full desserts for everyone to share. Lucky for you, I’ve provided those 5 dessert ideas below:
1. Apple Donuts
These donuts are like having an apple flavored churro, but better. This recipe is really easy and would take you about a total of 20 minutes. Here’s how you make this cinnamon goodness: make some pancake batter, slice the apples in chip-form and cut out the core. Then, heat up some vegetable oil, dip the apple slices in the pancake batter and drop them into the oil. Once they have cooked about 30 seconds on each side, take them out and place them on a plate to dry for about a minute. Lastly, sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top and enjoy warm, crisp, fried, sugary goodness.
2. Chocolate-Nut Apple Chips
A Spoon University how-to video will be coming out shortly – made by yours truly. But, until then here is how to make this easy snack: slice the apples into chip-form, cut out the core, dip the top in chocolate, and sprinkle some nuts on top. This recipe is perfect for when you are craving something sweet at night but don’t want to have anything too heavy in calories – and it’ll take you less than 10 minutes to make.
3. Apple Pie
Who doesn’t love a good apple pie in the fall – especially for Thanksgiving? This is my favorite fall dessert, you can never go wrong with a warm slice of pie and ice cream on top. The recipe is really simple: chop up about 6 granny smith apple into little cubes. Mix in 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg, a splash of vanilla extract, 3/4 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, a pinch of salt, generous squeeze of lemon juice. You can buy Pillsbury pie crust, which comes with a bottom and top layer, add in the apple mixture, put it in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes – and, you’ve got yourself a delicious apple pie!
4. Apple Popsicles
This recipe is extremely simple and perfect for hosting parties. All you need to do is slice the apple in chip-form, push in the popsicle stick, coat it in chocolate, and then decorate how ever you’d like. My favorite combination is drizzling caramel on top and then adding peanuts. The fun part is creating your own!
5. Baked Apple Cinnabuns
I know I’ve been saying each recipe stated above is really simple but seriously, each of these apple desserts will take less than 30 minutes of your time – including this one. I made this dessert for my family on Thanksgiving about 3 years ago and they were all devoured before I was even able to grab one for myself. Here’s how to make it: cut the top off of the apple, scoop out the inside, brush melted butter around the inside, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon inside and mix it around. Then, take a refrigerated cinnamon bun and stick it inside the apple. Put it in the oven at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes and watch those cinnabuns rise! Lastly, drizzle some icing on top and there you have it, a baked apple cinnabun.
So, now that you have 5 fun desserts in mind, hit up those apple picking farms and bring buckets of apples home for some baking that your whole family will love!
