When you’re trying to be healthy: Beefsteak

This find is new on the block and has discovered the secrets of making veggies miraculously delicious. Beefsteak’s recipes are created by world-famous chef, Jose Andres, which makes it no wonder why the dishes are so incredible. If you’re having trouble eating your greens, look no further.

What to order: Start with any of the amazing signature bowls with a side of sparkling wine. Swap quinoa for rice in any dish for extra protein and whole grains. Your body won’t know what hit it.

When you’re hungover: Steak n’ Egg

This 24/7 diner is known for non-stop breakfast and the after party on weekends. Thursday through Saturday nights between 1 and 3 a.m. you can find an eclectic mix of party-goers and weekend warriors. Everybody needs to recharge with some protein at some point.

What to order: There’s nothing like a plate full of eggs to restore the body after a rager. Try an omelet or a classic steak n’ egg combo. Just remember that it won’t taste as satisfying while sober.

When you’re sick of Starbucks: The Dav

The Davenport Cafe is a campus favorite and the long lines between classes epitomize the cheap, Starbucks alternative. With all the basic coffee and tea options and various baked goods in the morning, it’s no wonder students and faculty alike flock to the Dav.

What to order: If you’re not ready for another caffeine boost, try their homemade sodas. You can also save 50 cents on your drink by bringing a reusable cup. Saving money, saving the planet.

When you’re craving Italian: Angelico’s

Whether your veins pump vodka sauce or you’re just craving some affordable Italian, Angelico’s has delivery, take-out, and dine-in options.

What to order: The pesto pasta is the perfect carb-o-load, but you can’t go wrong with the pizza. Try the whole wheat pizza and calzone options for a heartier meal. If it’s nice out, make sure to grab a table outside on the terrace.

When you’re craving Mediterranean: Casbah

Casbah is a hidden gem of Mediterranean cuisine. Curiously affordable in the expensive Georgetown neighborhood, their delivery is prime when you’re craving some authentic falafel. Order for a group, and you’ve got an exciting alternative to delivery pizza.

What to order: The lamb tajeen is the biggest hit, but just don’t forget the pita bread. Order a platter to share with your roommate for under $15.

When you or your friends don’t eat meat: Cava

The Mediterranean style Chipotle has options for everyone. Cava is the perfect place to please carnivores and vegetarians alike. Similar to Chipotle, you can make a bowl, pita, salad, or mini pitas and customize it how you like. There’s also an assortment of fresh juices and drinks to pair with your creation.

What to order: The falafel is on point, but it’s really hard to go wrong. If you like a kick, don’t miss out on the crazy feta spread. Then once you’re addicted, make sure to get the rewards app to earn free meals.

When your parents are visiting and footing the bill: Chef Geoff’s

Famous for food quality and its proximity to campus, Chef Geoff’s is the place to suggest when the ‘rents ask what’s best for dinner. It’s also the place to be for Happy Hour which lasts all day on Monday and Tuesday in addition to 3-7 p.m. every other day.

What to order: Go big or go home, especially when it’s not your part-time job that’s paying the bill. Choose whatever your heart desires because everything’s good. Just don’t forget a side of the killer caesar fries.

When you’re “doing it for the Insta:” Open City at the National Cathedral

It’s hard to beat a good brunch with views of the National Cathedral, but if you can get an Insta out of it too, then nothing really compares. The cafe itself is beautiful offering significant natural light for snapping pictures that don’t even need filters.

What to order: It’s the least busy before 10 a.m., but if waking up is hard just dream about the lavender hot chocolate. They also offer many gluten-free options to make brunch better for everyone. Make sure to take some baked goods home too.

When you’re craving a slice: 2 Amys

Certified by the Italian government to serve real Neapolitan pizza, 2 Amy’s is the perfect place when you and your friends want to go out but still want pizza. There’s an excellent wine selection, and they’re opened until 11pm on the weekends.

What to order: You can’t go wrong with the traditional Margherita which rings up just under $10 for the authentic pie. Try to avoid the 7pm rush.

When you’re craving something sweet: Baked and Wired

With all the hype about Georgetown Cupcakes, it’s easy to miss the best bakery in town. Baked and Wired goes beyond delectable cupcakes to offer a variety of baked goods and beverages. You can take a box to go or bring your laptop and finish some work alongside a cupcake and cappuccino.

What to order: The flourless peanut butter cookies are almost world famous, but with quirky names like the Chocolate Cupcake of Doom or the Razmanian Devil, you’re bound to end up with an interesting and scrumptious treat. However, because everyone knows how great it is, the lines can ruin the experience. Get there before 12pm or after 6pm to avoid the wait.

When you want to check out live music: Tryst

This trendy coffee shop lounge was essentially built for hipsters. With an excellent food menu as well as coffee and a full bar in the evenings, Tryst really has it all. They frequently feature live music in the evenings which are posted on their Facebook page.

What to order: The frozen chai is bomb, and don’t leave the cafe without getting dessert. The chocolate roll is a favorite. It can get pretty busy, so early morning or between 3pm and 7pm is the best time to indulge.

When you’re cramming for exams and the library is full: Little Red Fox

The Little Red Fox is unknown to most AU students which makes it the perfect escape from campus. With rockin’ sandwiches, caffeine for here or to-go, baked goods and natural light, your studying might just do itself.

What to order: The Foxocado sandwich is a fried egg and avocado on ciabatta making the perfect balanced meal to power through your studies. Plus, it’s only $6.50. Refuel with a signature coffee drink, and you basically have an A already.
